Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of plant equipment and systems—from installation and commissioning during the project phase to preventive maintenance and troubleshooting during operational phase. This role bridges engineering and maintenance functions, ensuring a smooth transition from project execution to reliable plant operations.

In the Project Phase is responsible for supporting the setup, testing, and readiness of plant equipment during the project execution stage. This role involves hands-on involvement in equipment installation, pre-commissioning tests, and technical troubleshooting in collaboration with engineers and project teams.

In the operation phase, the technician is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of plant equipment and systems. This role involves performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs to ensure optimal equipment performance and safety. Monitor plant systems and equipment performance using power systems and diagnostic tools; identify abnormalities or trends requiring intervention, strong communication and teamwork skills are essential as they work collaboratively with operations and engineering teams to maintain compliance, enhance plant reliability, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key roles and responsibilities
Project Phase:
  • Assist Lead Technician / Engineers in site coordination with internal (Construction, Site Engineering, EHS, etc.) and external stakeholders (Equipment vendors, Main contractor, MEP contractors, etc.)
  • Support project construction and commissioning of Electrical & ELV system through the active involvement via daily site supervision, attending routine site coordination meetings, testing commissioning, troubleshooting and punch listing.
  • Assist Lead Technician / Engineer in site operational readiness activities by supporting generation of Risk Assessment (RA), Site Operational procedure (SOP), Computerized Maintenance management System (CMMS) Master Data and maintenance plan, etc.
  • Assist with routine checks and monitoring tasks during early operational activities.
  • Maintain basic records of field inspection results, field findings and test logs, assist in updating the punch lists.
  • Report any visible discrepancies or potential issues of field condition to the Lead technician.
  • Provide assistance in gathering necessary information’s on the Electrical & ELV systems, Organize manuals, datasheets, drawings and schedules for preventive maintenance planning.
  • Attend vendor training on operations and maintenance
  • Assist engineers in verifying on-site electrical (MV, LV, UPS & DG) & ELV installation activities for compliance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Assist engineers in verifying the ELV Systems (CCTV, Access control Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Public address and Voice evacuation systems) installation activities for compliance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Assist in during pre-commissioning and commissioning task under Lead technician, help with basic setup, wiring verification and observation of testing activities
  • Support functional testing of ELV system and control panels, MCCs, switchgear panels and other electrical equipment by preparing tools, taking readings, and following instructions from the lead technician. Record test observations and highlights any abnormalities noticed during testing.
  • Participate in fault-finding and diagnostic activities, Escalate issues beyond basic troubleshooting to senior team members.
  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns by assisting in safe shutdowns, isolation and basic restoration efforts.
  • Perform all necessary LOTO activities based on equipment testing and commissioning requirements.
  • Assist in checking and organizing received spare parts, tools and materials.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or plant management to support ongoing commissioning and project activities.
  • Uphold a safe working environment by adhering to WuXi Biologics’ safety policies, plant-specific safe work procedures, and local government regulations.
Operation Phase:
  • Perform maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures and sound engineering practices to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance.
  • To ensure the electrical network and electrically driven equipment are in optimal working condition to support the continuous operation of utility systems, thereby maintaining uninterrupted utility supply for the production process.
  • Lead and support plant troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment failures. This includes coordinating multidisciplinary activities with internal maintenance teams and external vendors. Responsibilities also cover planning and execution of routine, non-routine, and shutdown-related maintenance work.
  • Manage and coordinate with in-house and ad-hoc contractors for repair and maintenance activities, including site visits. Ensure that all work carried out meets the required quality standards and complies with specifications.
  • Support the development of preventive maintenance procedures and standard operating practices to ensure the reliability and longevity of plant assets.
  • Issue / receive work permits for maintenance activities, including the preparation and review of risk assessments to ensure safe and compliant execution of tasks.
  • Perform all necessary Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) activities in accordance with equipment maintenance requirements to ensure safe and compliant work execution.
  • Conduct inspections of received spare parts and tools to verify compliance with specifications and ensure readiness for maintenance activities.
  • Able to work on rotational shifts as required to support 24/7 plant operations.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by supervisor / plant management.
  • Uphold a safe operating environment and carry out all maintenance activities in compliance with WuXi Biologics’ policies, Plant safe work procedures as well as plant inhouse rules, National code and standards
Requirements
Education level + professional requirements
  • Diploma/Higher Nitec in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent
  • Licensed Electrical Worker Grade 7 (Advantage)
Work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in performing duties equivalent to Maintenance Technician
  • Hands-on experience in Electrical, Instrumentation & ELV systems, with strong technical exposure to commissioning, calibration, and maintenance activities.
  • GMP-compliant biopharmaceutical manufacturing operations (Advantage)
  • Experience in greenfield projects setup (advantage)
Professional knowledge & Capability
  • Familiarity with and prior hands-on experience with CMMS systems like Maximo or SAP.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel).
  • Ability to use AutoCAD for drafting.
  • Ability to learn and work effectively with the plant's Distributed Control System (DCS), with the ability to interpret the P&I diagram and process flow diagram.
  • Experience in system walkdown, inspection, testing, calibration, maintenance and repair of electrical and control equipment.
