The primary focus of the position is to lead analytical coverage of Southeast Asian gas and LNG markets—Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand—with a substantial commitment to providing back up coverage for Northeast Asian gas and LNG markets. The role will also actively interact with the various team to form a global analytical narrative across multiple time horizons. The critical importance of understanding Southeast Asia’s gas market evolution, particularly its expected demand growth in the next two decades, for Trading & Supply and Shell’s success. The position will focus on multiple stakeholders across different forecast horizons:
- Short-Term LNG trading The analyst will take an active role in delivering and communicating global Short-Term market calls and narratives on a three-year horizon.
- Portfolio Optimization and Origination: The role will provide critical analytical inputs to global market narrative over the next two decades; as well as supporting specific market and counterpart opportunities over the same time horizon.
- Integrated Gas/Upstream and Corporate and Investor Relations: The analyst will drive the wider organization’s long-term and strategic thinking for Southeast Asia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Forecast monthly LNG imports for each country using sector-level demand modeling - power generation, industrial use, buildings (heating/cooling), and transport. The analyst will also take an active role in providing support for the Northeast Asian market as required.
This role will also work closely with the Analytics team to streamline existing modelling, aggregate contractual terms to forecast spot and/or open LNG demand.
- Monitor market signals (news, government data, pricing, shipping flows, vendor forecasts) and adjust analysis accordingly.
- Build and refine models for short-, mid- and long-term forecasting (0–20 year horizon). Develop visualization screens and dashboards to best communicate model outputs and takeaways.
- Deliver country-, region- and global-level insights and market calls to traders, originators, and strategic teams during in-person meetings and wider calls.
- Benchmark forecasts against vendors and understanding core differences in forecast beliefs. Back test models and forecasts and adjustment as needed to improve accuracy and insights.
- Consistently improve forecasting approaches including the development of alternate outcomes with associated probabilities.
- Initiate, communicate, manage and deliver predictive analytics and digital tools
- Deliver ad hoc analysis as requested by key stakeholders.

Job Requirements:
- Technical: Fundamentals market modelling, price forecasting, upstream economics, trading recommendations, statistical forecasting applications
- Generic: strong communication/presentation skills, excellent problem-solving ability
- Experience in gas, power, or LNG industry.
- Proven capability in energy market fundamentals and demand modeling.
- Expertise in data visualization and energy modeling.
- Advanced degrees in econometrics, energy economics, international economics, or energy policy.
- Strong grasp of statistical modeling and stakeholder communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with DS/ML platforms (e.g., DataIKU) preferred.
