A leading international company is seeking a legal professional to oversee compliance and legal matters primarily in Indonesia. The role involves leading cross-border projects and managing external legal counsel. Ideal candidates have 5-10 years of experience in financial services or technology sectors, possess strong governance framework knowledge, and are fluent in both English and Mandarin. Frequent travel and a long-term presence in Jakarta are required.
The role requires long-term assignment in Jakarta, Indonesia (approximately 70% of the time).
Lead and oversee the company’s legal and compliance matters for overseas operations, with a primary focus on Indonesia, and provide professional legal opinions to support business decisions.
Participate in major cross-border projects, including commercial negotiations and due diligence, assess legal risks, and provide recommendations on risk mitigation and execution.
Manage external legal counsel and handle arbitration, litigation, compliance inquiries, and other dispute-related matters.
Continuously monitor regulatory updates, industry rules, and legal developments in Indonesia and other relevant markets, analyse their impact on the business, and advise on appropriate countermeasures.
Conduct legal research on new business models, key strategic initiatives, and policy-sensitive topics, identify potential risks, and provide legal guidance to facilitate management decision-making.
Bachelor’s degree or above in Law, with strong hands-on legal experience.
5–10 years of in-house legal experience within financial services, technology, or internet-related industries. Prior experience in reputable law firms is an advantage.
Proven experience in establishing legal governance frameworks. Candidates with experience leading or managing local teams in Indonesia are preferred.
Strong logical thinking, analytical capability, and structured approach in handling complex issues.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and cross-functional coordination skills, with strong execution and learning abilities.
Proficient in both English and Mandarin to work with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Able to travel frequently and maintain a long-term work presence in Indonesia (approximately 70% based in Jakarta).
