Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Learning Support Teacher. Maternity Cover February - June 2026. Reports to: Division Principal, Head of Inclusion. Division: Primary School.

Main Working Relationships

Learning Support Teacher works within whole school initiatives to improve outcomes for students with additional learning and support needs. The role is a member of the student support services team and works closely with the school psychologist, counsellors, administration, grade level leads, health and ELL departments.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with classroom teacher to support assessment for learning and identify specific learning support needs.
  • Identify specific learning support needs through analysis of assessment, referring to classroom performance and assessment, informal assessments, screening and psychological assessments and recommendations.
  • Plan, implement, model, monitor and evaluate teaching practices for students with additional learning support needs.
  • Plan, implement, model, monitor and evaluate personalized adjustments for learning where required, with the classroom teacher, student and/or parent or caregiver.
  • Model exemplary practice when tailoring adjusted learning programmes for students with additional learning needs.
  • Maintain documentation for each student receiving additional learning support, including PLPs, reports and programming.
  • Provide direct support for students with additional learning support needs through a range of strategies, including direct instruction, delivery of adjusted learning programmes, assessment and monitoring of progress, covering social integration, language and communication, literacy, numeracy and behaviour.
  • Provide professional specialist advice, support and mentoring to classroom teachers on catering to diverse learning needs and on partnership with families to maximize learning opportunities at school and home.
  • Provide professional specialist advice and assistance to the school’s support services team regarding students with additional learning needs and support professional learning for classroom teachers and school learning support teachers.
  • Design and facilitate professional learning for classroom teachers to address current trends in necessary supports to ensure consistent implementation of interventions and supports.
  • Ensure the safety and well‑being of all students in accordance with CIS administrative policies and divisional procedures.
  • Know, understand and support the school’s Mission, Vision, Core Values and Learning Principles.
  • Participate in the Individual Work Plan process (IWP) and meet expectations outlined in the CIS Teacher Job Description, CIS Teacher Standards and CIS IB Programme Expectations for Teachers.
  • Solicit feedback from parents or students via survey and develop and implement an Individual Work Plan (IWP) that supports the Division Work Plan.
  • Reflect individually and collaboratively (IWP meetings with Principal) on the IWP components and provide feedback on the IWP process to school administrators.
  • Be actively involved in special events (Carnival, Talent Shows, Exhibition, etc.) and provide coaching as required and based on skill set.
  • Participate in one school committee each year, complete the classroom inventory record and be dependable and prepared for class (materials set up and ready).
  • Contribute to community building (IWP).
Required Qualifications
  • BA in a relevant field.
  • Teaching credential.
  • Minimum two years experience as a full‑time teacher.
  • Courses and/or certificate in working with students with learning support needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Postgraduate studies in learning support/special needs education.
  • International school experience.
  • Two years employed as a Learning Support teacher.
