The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Learning Manager to join the Arup University Learning team and help shape our Learning strategy. You will play a crucial role in building individual competence and organisational capability to help us win work and deliver on our business plans.

You will lead the development and implementation of learning initiatives that strengthen Arup’s work-winning capabilities globally, ensuring our members are equipped and empowered to connect with clients in their markets. Through these work-winning learning solutions, our people gain the skills and confidence needed to secure contracts and generate long‑term value for the business. The successful candidate will have experience designing learning that builds commercial fluency, strategic influencing, and client engagement/storytelling capabilities across all levels. They will be responsible for embedding these capabilities into formal and informal learning and development opportunities, whilst implementing innovative learning methodologies.

You will partner with Arup’s internal SMEs and business leaders to identify learning needs and co‑create effective learning solutions which drive commercial excellence and support strategic reskilling initiatives—empowering members to grow their skills in areas that are critical to the future success of the business and addressing the unique needs of diverse cohorts from Graduate to Director.

Working within Arup University Group, you will collaborate with interdisciplinary experts across five Faculties in Arup University. This is a role with a significant opportunity to help shape Arup’s standards of excellence, and engage widely with our membership. Reporting directly to the Learning Faculty Leadership, you will be responsible for the quality and the success of all Learning solutions delivered through your Learning Account.

You will make an impact in this role by :
  • Identifying critical business priorities that support Arup to deliver on its purpose.
  • Developing a formal Learning Account plan in partnership with senior stakeholders to deliver transformational outcomes for Arup’s members.
  • Leading the design and delivery of learning aligned with the full work-winning lifecycle.
Embedding learning that strengthens :

Client engagement and relationship building, Sales effectiveness and commercial fluency, Competitive analysis and market positioning, Value proposition and win strategy development, Pre‑positioning and Bid strategy, Professionalised go‑to‑market capabilities

  • Taking responsibility for the quality and success of all learning solutions delivered through the Learning Account, managing the full learning lifecycle from definition of capabilities, diagnosis, design, delivery of learning projects and evaluation to deliver excellence.
  • Designing and facilitating workshops for stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assure that technical training is robust and meets the organisation's needs.
  • Building strong relationships with other Learning Account Managers, Region Learning Leads and SMEs to deliver excellence and assure consistency in learning quality across the regions.
  • Role‑modelling excellent learning standards and behaviours including highly collaborative working arrangements with the Learning professionals in all regions.
  • Guiding and managing project teams, with a hands‑on approach, to ensure the operational aspects of the Learning Account are handled effectively, including budget management and resource planning.
  • Applying innovative adult learning methodologies ensuring that learning solutions and approaches are effective, engaging and fit for purpose.

Is this role right for you?
  • Proven experience in successfully delivering all aspects of the learning lifecycle (e.g. needs analysis, design & development, delivery, assessment & evaluation).
  • A strong understanding of the work-winning lifecycle and its strategic importance to the business, with experience embedding these principles into learning and development initiatives.
  • Experience driving reskilling initiatives that support business transformation and future‑readiness, helping members grow their skills in areas of strategic importance.
  • Evidence of applying a consultative approach when diagnosing Learning needs and advising stakeholders on Learning best-practice to develop commercial / work-winning learning.
  • Ability to design and implement effective learning evaluation methodologies, with a focus on measuring the success and impact of learning initiatives.
  • Project management experience and skills, including planning, budget management, stakeholder management, task management and communications.
  • Proven background in developing commercial learning for a range of disciplines (from experts to Leadership to multi‑disciplinary roles.
  • Experience collaborating with talent and leadership development teams to align learning pathways and capability frameworks with career progression models, especially for client-facing and leadership roles.
  • Evidence of managing external partnerships for the delivery of world‑class learning solutions (from RFP selection process through to delivery and evaluation).
  • Demonstrable experience of driving curiosity and learning culture for work‑winning professionals in multi‑matrix organisations.
  • Deep knowledge of learning trends, technologies and innovation in learning with demonstrable curiosity and commitment to ongoing CPD in these areas.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and present coherent ideas with confidence and gravitas, creating engagement and followership.
  • Desire to thrive in a dynamic working environment, dealing with senior stakeholders and learners from diverse cultural contexts in multiple locations around the world.
  • Experience in a technical environment, such as engineering or construction, is favourable.

Location : Madrid, London, Toronto, Singapore and Melbourne three days a week, and two days working from home.

NOTE : This role requires flexibility for unsocial hours calls due to the global nature of the position.
