Job description

The Consulting Practice within the Government Technology Office of GovTech helps agencies resolve complex IT challenges and modernize systems with confidence. We bring together deep engineering, product, and design expertise to assess legacy environments, align stakeholders, and shape multi-year solutions that are human-centric, scalable, and delivered by GovTech and industry partners.

As a Data Engineering Consultant, you will be part of a high-impact team that works collaboratively with GovTech and public sector agencies to address the government’s most critical data and infrastructure challenges. You’ll also help shape the consulting practice and contribute to its growth.

Each team member is a leader in their domain and works collaboratively with GovTech teams and agencies to address the government’s most critical technology challenges. As a founding member, you’ll also shape this growing practice while working on diverse and impactful problems in the public sector.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and advise agencies on data engineering strategy, architecture, and implementation aligned with the Digital Government Blueprint (DGB2.0).
  • Translate business data requirements into technical specifications and scalable solutions.
  • Architect and build ingestion pipelines to collect, clean, merge, and harmonize data from diverse sources.
  • Design and implement secure, cloud-based data infrastructure and access mechanisms.
  • Monitor and optimize ETL systems and databases for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Construct reusable data models and maintain data catalogues with metadata and lineage.
  • Collaborate with data stewards to enforce data governance, quality, and security policies.
  • Guide agencies through greenfield and brownfield implementations, from problem definition to solution design.
  • Develop standardized approaches for assessments, discovery, and solutioning grounded in GovTech best practices.
  • Champion engineering excellence and influence adoption of modern data and infrastructure practices across GovTech and Whole-of-Government.
You’ll thrive here if you
  • Enjoy untangling complex data and infrastructure challenges.
  • Can translate technical concepts into clear, non-technical language.
  • Focus on value and outcomes, not just technical solutions.
  • Influence through trust, collaboration, and clarity.
  • Love working upstream to define problems and shape the right solution.
Additional Job Description
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related disciplines.
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, cloud infrastructure, or platform engineering.
  • Deep understanding of system design, data structures, algorithms, and data modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and distributed data technologies (Spark, Hadoop).
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, Scala, and SQL.
  • Experience with orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Azure Data Factory) and DevOps tools (Docker, Git, Terraform).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Experience with Databricks and implementing batch/real-time data pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, security, and privacy (especially in public sector contexts).
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop future technical leaders.

Our employee benefits are based on a total rewards approach, offering a holistic and market-competitive suite of perks. These include leave benefits to meet your work-life needs and employee wellness programmes.

We champion flexible work arrangements (subject to your job role) and trust that you will manage your own time to deliver your best, wherever you are, and whatever works best for you.
