Cambridge CARES in Singapore seeks a Lead Research Software Engineer to deliver the software and data infrastructure for the BloodCounts! AI4S project.

You will curate datasets, build backend pipelines, deploy tooling, and serve as the main contact for hardware and software queries. Qualifications

• Substantial software engineering experience in a research, data-intensive or clinical context.
• Expert proficiency in Python, with strong SQL, and sound software engineering practices (Git, CI/CD).
• Experience with coding assistant tools and safeguarding deployed tools.
• Strong automated testing experience across pipelines.
• Designing and operating distributed systems and federated learning infrastructure.
• Networking fundamentals and secure communications.
• Security-by-design throughout software lifecycle.
• Rapid prototyping with JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Database design with PostgreSQL and analytics stores.
• Handling large data formats like Parquet, HDF5, DICOM.
• Building reproducible ETL/ELT pipelines with orchestrators.
• Containerisation and infra tooling (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Hybrid/in-cloud infrastructure across providers.
• Cybersecurity and data governance in research.
• Multi-modal data structuring and FAIR principles.
• Ability to lead and mentor teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-volume clinical data storage databases.
• Develop reproducible data curation pipelines.
• Deliver OMOP-aligned clinical data.
• Disseminate SOPs to clinical and IT stakeholders.
• Lead deployment of federated learning infrastructure (hardware and software).
• Contribute to NRF reporting requirements.
• Mentor team members and foster collaboration.
• Understand core research challenges and innovations.
• Author software engineering publications.
