The Role
This pivotal role involves overseeing all laboratory operations, ensuring the highest standards of technical competence, and maintaining full compliance with our ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements. You will lead a team of skilled laboratory technicians and drive continual improvement initiatives. You will serve as the primary point of contact for quality-related matters, including with external accreditation bodies e.g. SAC or laboratory sub-contractors / vendors. You will also be the main liaison and contact person for SAC-SINGLAS or MOM laboratory safety/workplace safety audits.
Job Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Supervise day-to-day activities and operations of the calibration laboratory
- Manage a team of laboratory technicians to ensure smooth, safe and cost-effective laboratory operations
- Upkeep and monitor lab conditions and equipment calibration status to ensure compliance with safety, environmental and calibration standards/regulations
- Manage licenses and ensure safe operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Maintain, update and create (new, if need be) laboratory calibration procedures with proper documentation of records
- Plan, coordinate and perform calibration (if need be)
- Plan and conduct training for laboratory technicians
- Troubleshoot quality issues relating to laboratory equipment, software and/or manpower
- Liaison with external service providers on a routine basis and/or SAC-SINGLAS for accreditation/audit matters on an annual/as required basis
Quality & Safety
- Maintain the quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001 & ISO/IEC 17025 standards
- Perform ad hoc internal audits, address non-conformities, and support the company and laboratory in maintaining its accreditation status
- Address customer inquiries and/or complaints related to quality and technical aspects
- Manage office safety, enforce safety rules, and ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Conduct safety orientation for new employees
Experience
- At least five (5) years of relevant working experience (incl. quality control and/or quality assurance roles), in which:
- At least one (1) year of relevant work experience must be in a “decision‑making position” (defined as having the authority to define, execute or control projects/work processes and being responsible for the outcome).
- Candidates who have the following educational qualifications will have part of the minimum 5 years relevant working experience waived:
- Diploma from a relevant technical discipline – one (1) year waived.
- Degree from a relevant discipline – two (2) years waived.
- Authorized signatory for Dimensional and or Mechanical scope in a previous SAC‑SINGLAS laboratory is a plus.
- Experience in hands‑on calibration of Dimensional and or Mechanical measuring instruments is a plus.
- Familiarity to creating calibration procedures for Dimensional and or Mechanical measuring instruments is a plus.
- Familiarity to ISO/IEC 17025 is a plus.
Skills
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of measurement uncertainty and to quality assurance processes
- Demonstrated problem‑solver, has high attention to detail and has a “can‑do” spirit
- Good command of English language and able to communicate (both verbal and written) effectively with technical staff, management and external stakeholders
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications
- Self‑motivated, confident, and capable of working independently to lead a team
