The Opportunity
We are seeking a Junior Associate / Mid-level Associate to join Corporate practice, working in the M&A and Private Capital team in our Singapore office. This is a dynamic, energetic and fun team environment with a first class multinational and regional client portfolio, including major energy companies such as BP, Chevron, Petronas, Pertamina, PTT Group and Tenaga Nasional, international renewables developers/investors such as Iberdrola, Corio Generation, Blueleaf Energy and Engie, financial investors into energy and infrastructure such as BlackRock, GIC, Macquarie, Goldman Sachs, CDPQ and INA, as well as other key Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer network clients such as DP World, BHP, Keppel, International Finance Corporation, Mitsubishi, Marubeni, Sumitomo and China Power.
What you'll do
- Work across a range of corporate transactions including private M&A, joint ventures, project developments, commercial contracts and restructuring for both Asia and cross border transactions.
- Play a key role in transactions, including drafting and negotiating documents and supervising associate responsible for due diligence workstreams.
- Project manage transactions to ensure that key deadlines are met, and deliverables are anticipated, including working closely with other legal teams across the firm to deliver an integrated service to our clients.
- Manage and build client relationships, including assisting with business development activities, events, pitching, marketing and thought leadership.
- Work with our knowledge and Digital Legal Delivery teams to leverage AI and other technology to improve legal delivery tools and enhance efficiency.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have at least 4 years post qualification experience in a private practice environment;
- Be able to demonstrate excellent drafting, analytical and deal project management skills;
- Be a confident, driven and collaborative individual;
- Have experience on M&A, joint ventures, commercial contracts and regulation in energy and infrastructure transactions;
- Have relevant professional qualifications (Singapore qualification would be desirable but not a must);
- Have a strong academic record;
- Be enthusiastic, adaptable and industrious, with excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills;
- Work well with people, including more junior team members who will depend on you for guidance;
- Have excellent English language skills (fluent written and spoken English is required).
