Job summary

SPH Media invites applications for a Junior / Lighting Specialist to support studio and outdoor shoots, including podcasts and live productions. The role reports to the Lighting Manager and involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary STUDIO+65 team to shape visual mood and deliver high-impact aesthetics for digital platforms.

Candidates with strong hands-on lighting experience, including DMX and GrandMA3, will be preferred.

Qualifications

• 5 years or more of relevant production experience preferred.
• Good practical knowledge of lighting equipment and camera lighting.
• Understanding of colour temperature, exposure, diffusion, and light shaping.

• Troubleshoot lighting, DMX, power, cabling, and fixture issues.
• Adapt lighting setups to different locations and weather conditions.
• Work with Camera, Engineering and Production teams during shoots.
• Maintain and organise lighting and grip equipment.
• Guide interns or junior team members when required.

About the Role

STUDIO+65 is SPH Media’s multidisciplinary creative production hub. We collaborate across newsrooms to drive visual excellence and production innovation in digital video, audio, podcasts, and live shows.

We are looking for a Junior / Lighting Specialist with strong hands-on production experience to support studio and outdoor shoots, including podcasts, interviews, digital content, live productions, and other content-driven productions.

Working under the Lighting Manager, this role cross-collaborates with a multidisciplinary team within STUDIO+65 to shape visual mood and deliver high-impact aesthetics for digital and social media platforms.

This is a 1-year contract position, with renewal possibilities.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, adjust, and strike professional lighting and grip equipment.
• Execute lighting setups for studio, outdoor, and location productions.
• Shape light using fixtures, diffusion, flags, reflectors, modifiers, and other grip equipment.
• Operate lighting fixtures and control systems, including DMX and GrandMA3.
• Support pre-lighting, rehearsals, programming, and live productions.
• Troubleshoot lighting, DMX, power, cabling, and fixture issues.
• Adapt lighting setups to different locations, weather, ambient light, and production requirements.
• Work closely with Camera, Engineering, Production, and other departments during shoots.
• Maintain and organise lighting and grip equipment.
• Support and guide interns or junior team members when required.
• Follow safe working practices at all times.

Who we are looking for

• 5 years or more of relevant production experience is preferred, particularly in studio, broadcast, film/video, digital content, live production, events, or location shoots.
• Candidates with less experience will also be considered based on strong hands-on production and lighting experience.
• Good practical knowledge of lighting equipment and camera lighting.
• Understanding of colour temperature, exposure, diffusion, contrast, and light shaping.
• Experience with DMX / GrandMA3 is an advantage.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work independently and take direction from the Lighting Manager or Lead.
• Willing to work flexible hours, including studio and location shoots.
• Physical stamina to handle the demands of the job, including prolonged periods of standing and lifting of equipment.
• Proficiency in English language and at least one other language, Chinese, Malay or Tamil is an added advantage

Role Expectations

Candidates with varying levels of experience with approximately 5 years or more are preferred, while those with less experience may be considered based on their technical competency and practical production experience.

The successful candidate is expected to progressively take greater ownership of lighting setups, work independently on standard productions, support more complex shoots, and contribute to the overall quality, efficiency, and safety of STUDIO+65 productions.

A strong production mindset — the ability to work under pressure, adapt quickly, troubleshoot problems, and work effectively with other departments — is essential.
