The Junior Engineer is responsible for carrying out day-to-day hands‑on maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance works throughout the Hotel. The role supports the smooth and safe operation of guest rooms, public areas, back‑of‑house facilities and building systems by responding promptly to defects and completing assigned maintenance tasks.
The incumbent is expected to be highly hands‑on, service‑oriented and able to perform basic troubleshooting and repairs across mechanical, electrical, plumbing and general building maintenance areas.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Perform basic electrical works such as replacement of light fittings, switches, sockets and other minor electrical components, where appropriately trained and authorized.
- Carry out basic plumbing works, including clearing minor blockages, repairing or replacing taps, fittings, hoses, flushing systems and attending to minor water leakage issues.
- Perform general building maintenance works including minor carpentry, painting, patching, sealing, drilling, installation and other handyman works.
- Assist with the inspection, operation and basic troubleshooting of the Hotel’s mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems and equipment.
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance works according to the Hotel’s maintenance programme and ensure assigned tasks are completed within the required timeframe.
- Conduct routine checks of guest rooms, plantrooms, public areas and back‑of‑house facilities to identify defects, abnormalities or potential maintenance issues.
- Assist in maintaining air‑conditioning and ventilation systems, including basic cleaning, checking and troubleshooting of equipment where applicable.
- Support the Engineering team in carrying out corrective, preventive, protective and improvement works to maintain the Hotel’s operational readiness.
- Assist external contractors and vendors during maintenance, servicing, repair and installation works, including providing access and operational support where required.
- Ensure tools, equipment and spare parts are properly used, maintained and returned to their designated storage areas after completion of work.
- Maintain proper records of maintenance works performed, defects identified, repairs completed and outstanding works requiring follow‑up.
- Inform the Engineering Supervisor or relevant manager promptly of major defects, recurring issues, equipment failures or situations requiring specialist contractor support.
- Liaise with Front Office, Housekeeping and other operational departments when attending to room or facility defects to minimize disruption to guests and Hotel operations.
- Ensure all maintenance and repair works are performed in accordance with workplace safety requirements, Hotel procedures and applicable regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the work areas during and after completion of maintenance works.
- Respond to urgent engineering or maintenance situations and provide hands‑on assistance to restore operations as quickly and safely as possible.
- Participate in emergency response activities and support the Hotel’s fire, life‑safety and emergency procedures where required.
- Perform other hands‑on maintenance duties, assignments and projects as required to support the Hotel’s overall operations and business objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- NITEC/ Higher NITEC / Diploma or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services, Facilities Management, Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Preferably 1–2 years of relevant hands‑on maintenance experience, ideally within a hotel, serviced residence, commercial building or facilities environment.
- Basic knowledge of building Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) systems.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, air‑conditioning and general building maintenance works.
- Able and willing to perform physically hands‑on maintenance and repair work.
- Relevant electrical, safety or technical certifications would be advantageous.
