Sequential Skin is a pioneering biotech company applying advanced genomics and artificial intelligence to understand the human skin microbiome. We are looking for a Junior AI Engineer with a foundation in bioinformatics, microbiology, and machine learning to join our growing data science team in Singapore.
You will work closely with our bioinformatics and R&D teams to design and implement machine learning architectures for biological data — including human and microbial genomics, metagenomics, and skin health datasets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing, training, and deploying AI/ML models for biological and microbiome data analysis.
- Collaborate with bioinformaticians to preprocess, normalize, and integrate omics datasets (DNA, microbiome, SNP, and expression data).
- Implement and optimize data pipelines for large-scale biological datasets.
- Participate in the development of AI/ML architectures, including feature selection, hyperparameter tuning, and model validation.
- Contribute to data visualization and interpretation of biological patterns.
- Support publication and reporting efforts with high-quality figures, analyses, and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
- Basic understanding of microbiology, genomics, and AI/ML principles.
- Proficiency in Python (preferred) and common ML/data science frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, pandas, numpy).
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools (e.g. QIIME2, Kraken2, MetaPhlAn, or similar) is a plus.
- Comfortable working with genomic/microbiome datasets and understanding biological metadata.
- Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and willingness to learn across disciplines.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) or ML pipeline orchestration.
- Understanding of omics data formats (FASTA, FASTQ, VCF).
- Exposure to statistical modelling, network analysis, or deep learning architectures.
- Prior internship or academic research experience in microbiome, genomics, or related AI fields.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to work at the intersection of AI and microbiology, contributing to novel skin health discoveries.
- Exposure to real-world clinical and omics datasets.
- Mentorship from an interdisciplinary team of geneticists, bioinformaticians, and AI specialists.
- Collaborative, mission-driven environment in a rapidly growing biotech startup.
