Position Overview
The ITAD Technician is responsible for handling, testing, refurbishing, and securely processing ITAD equipment in accordance with ITAD standards. This role involves diagnosing hardware issues, performing data erasure or destruction, ensuring accurate inventory tracking, and maintaining compliance with environmental and data security regulations. The technician will work closely with warehouse, logistics, and compliance teams to ensure efficient and secure IT asset disposition.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Handling & Testing
- Receive, unpack, inspect, and test IT equipment such as laptops, desktops, servers, and networking devices.
- Record and update the working condition of each item accurately.
- Data Erasure & Destruction
- Perform secure data wiping or degaussing using certified tools or machines (e.g., data wiping software, degausser, destroyer).
- Maintain proper records and certificates for all data destruction activities.
- Refurbishment & Repair
- Replace or upgrade components (e.g., RAM, SSD, batteries, screens) to restore devices for resale or reuse.
- Ensure all refurbished units meet company quality assurance standards.
- Inventory & Documentation
- Tag, scan, and update asset details into the inventory system accurately, including serial numbers, models, and specifications.
- Support audit and reporting requirements to ensure traceability and compliance.
- Warehouse Operations
- Follow collection schedules to collect e-waste; able to carry heavy items when required.
- Perform onsite inventory recording or destruction services at customer locations when required.
- Segregate equipment and materials, dismantle servers and switches from racks, and assist in the moving and collection of job-related items.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of computer hardware components and troubleshooting.
- Experience with data erasure software and hardware testing tools.
- Familiarity with asset tracking systems and barcode scanning.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience operating degaussers, crushers, or electronic recycling equipment.
- Physically able to handle IT equipment (up to 20 kg occasionally).
- Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
