Role Purpose
This role bridges technical engineering insight with commercial and market analysis to support investment decision-making in the energy, industrials, advanced manufacturing, and power systems sectors. The Investment Researcher (Engineering) will evaluate technologies, business models, company fundamentals, supply chain structures, and industry trends to generate actionable insights for portfolio strategies, due diligence, and investment recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Market & Sector Research
- Conduct structured research on energy systems, electrical equipment, industrial chemical materials, and manufacturing supply chains.
- Analyze macro / industry trends, cost curves, competitive landscapes, and regulatory environments across China and global markets.
- Build market maps and thematic investment theses for sectors such as smart grids, power electronics, specialty materials, and green energy technologies.
Company & Technology Evaluation
- Assess operational models, customer concentration, supplier dependencies, and pricing economics of target companies.
- Evaluate engineering reliability, product differentiation, and technology maturity (TRL levels) using technical background in electrical and power systems.
- Support technical DD discussions with management teams, OEMs, component suppliers, and industrial distributors.
Financial & Commercial Analysis
- Translate engineering performance metrics into commercial viability and revenue scalability.
- Review sales contracts, pricing models, and volume forecasts to validate growth and profitability assumptions.
- Prepare comparison benchmarks between domestic and international competitors.
Internal Strategy & Reporting
- Produce concise research briefs, presentation decks, and valuation support materials for investment committee discussions.
- Assist the investment team in pipeline screening and prioritization.
- Coordinate cross-functional discussions between engineering, commercial, and finance stakeholders when evaluating opportunities.
Core Requirements
- 2–5+ years of commercial, research, or technical experience in industrials, energy systems, electrical components, or related sectors.
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to synthesize complex technical and market information.
- Proficiency in data modeling or engineering simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, PowerWorld, MATPOWER) is a plus (not mandatory).
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
