Job summary

The Tote Board Data Office is offering an internship to support data management, integration, analytics and reporting initiatives. You will gain hands-on exposure to enterprise data platforms and modern data engineering practices, including Databricks, data quality management and BI solutions.

You will help prepare data, build dashboards, run SQL queries, and document data flows. This role provides data-driven learning in a public sector environment and a chance to contribute to decision-support

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a university degree or polytechnic diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline.
• Proficiency in SQL and Microsoft Excel.
• Familiarity with Python or R, Power BI or Tableau, and Databricks.
• Basic understanding of data management, data integration, and ETL/ELT concepts.
• Ability to work carefully with data and document processes clearly.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to data management and integration tasks for the Data Office initiatives.
• Develop SQL queries to extract and analyse data; perform basic analytics in Python or R.
• Create and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI or Tableau.
• Assist in streamlining data pipelines and recurring reporting processes.
• Document data flows, processes and technical procedures.
• Prepare final deliverables and presentations summarising project outcomes.

[What the role is]

The intern will work with Tote Board's Data Office on initiatives supporting data management, data integration, analytics and reporting. The role provides hands-on exposure to enterprise data platforms and modern data engineering practices, including Databricks, data quality management and business intelligence solutions. The intern will support data preparation, analysis, dashboard development and automation activities to improve data accessibility and support data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

[What you will be working on]

You will support the Data Management and Analytics Enablement Initiative, including:

Data management and integration

• Consolidate data from multiple source systems.
• Clean and validate data, including addressing duplicates and missing values.
• Support data quality improvement activities.
• Assist with data integration and transformation using Databricks and related tools.

Data analytics and reporting

• Develop SQL queries to extract and analyse data.
• Perform basic exploratory data analysis using Python or R.
• Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI or Tableau.

Data automation and engineering

• Assist in streamlining data pipelines and recurring reporting processes.
• Automate repetitive data preparation and reporting tasks.
• Document data flows, processes and technical procedures.

Key deliverables may include:

• Cleaned and validated datasets for analysis and reporting.
• SQL queries and reusable scripts for data extraction and transformation.
• Dashboard enhancements and visual reports in Power BI or Tableau.
• Automated workflows or process improvements for recurring reporting.
• Documentation covering data integration, data management and analytics processes.
• A final presentation summarising project outcomes, findings and recommendations.

Project deliverables may be adjusted or rescoped according to operational needs.
