Job Scope:
Sous Chef Cafe
- Lead and mentor kitchen staff, upholding hygiene and food safety standards.
- Prepare a wide range of dishes from hearty brunch items to fresh salads and house‑made bakes.
- Innovate seasonal menus and contribute to special promotions or events.
- Oversee food quality and consistency at every service.
Sous Chef Chinese Cuisine
- Create and update menus, ensuring they are appealing, balanced (less salt or MSG, for example), and cater to various dietary needs and preferences.
- Alter existing recipes to healthier options or rearrange specific menus when one item is insufficient due to a last‑minute order.
- Oversee food quality and presentation standards when Head chef is not around.
- At the beginning of a shift, supervise preparation of ingredients, sanitization of workstations, and organization of kitchen equipment.
- Ensure that all recipes and pastes are documented in a neat and orderly manner.
- Track kitchen inventory and ingredients whenever Head chef is not around to keep appropriate products available.
- Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene, adhering to health and safety regulations and ensuring the kitchen environment is clean and organized.
- Handle minor repairs; if equipment breaks down because it was not properly cared for, the chef and staff will share the repair cost.
- Address any issues that arise in the kitchen, including food quality problems, staff conflicts, or equipment malfunctions.
Job Requirements:
- Experience as a Sous Chef or kitchen lead in a café, deli, or casual dining venue.
- Strong culinary skills and familiarity with café‑style cuisine.
- Experience working in Chinese cuisine is a plus.
