Job description

The IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) delivers trusted, technology-based insights that help leaders make smarter decisions and more informed technology investments-and inspires them to act.

Editorial leads in the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) are experts in taking sets of data and crafting compelling narratives and points of view aligned with IBM's business priorities. IBV editorial leads, with niche journalistic and client-facing expertise, engage audiences, establishing awareness and consideration of IBM as a trusted business partner. They are also experts in the use of generative AI to create and improve content.

Pre-requisites

The ideal candidate should have solid, hands‑on experience applying the following skills:

  • Superior editorial skills — capability in long‑ and short‑form writing that incorporates data analysis, compelling storytelling, and expert grammar. Details:
    • Independent in writing clear, concise and creative prose for business executives in "white paper" long‑form format in English. Use an array of resources provided by key stakeholders, such as a presentation file, data deck, or notes from interviewing IBM SMEs. Create an understandable, compelling story with recommendations for next steps.
    • Clear, conversational business writing (not technical writing) tone: help readers understand what technology can do for them, but without "consultant‑speak" terms or bogging down into the technology aspects. Use a professional, journalistic style rather than dry, academic reporting or marketing/sales tone.
    • Attention‑grabbing, fresh use of words and expert understanding of U.S. English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Know or quickly learn IBM Style, IBM Legal guidelines, and the Chicago Manual of Style.
    • Interest in and capability to craft content in multiple formats that engage executive audiences: long‑form, short‑form, infographic, video/audio scripts, data sheet, social post, web content, email promotion, etc.
  • Analytical skills — simplify complex analyses, narrate charts and graphs, interpret data and incorporate into storylines.
  • Project management and professional skills — build and follow project schedules and plans, interview SMEs (including senior executives in and outside of IBM), manage stakeholders.
  • Critical interpersonal skills — negotiation, influence, collaboration, flexibility, multitasking, proactive, creativity, curiosity, commitment.
