Job summary

NTU’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering seeks a Research Scientist / Research Fellow to develop simulations and experimental setups for high-power fiber beam combiners. You will model optical behavior, perform thermal analyses, and drive validation with experimental data.

The role requires a PhD in a related field and at least 4 years in an optics lab, with proficiency in BPM and COMSOL, and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering or related field.
• At least 4 years of hands-on optics lab experience and test bench construction.
• Strong background in optical and thermal simulation software.
• Solid understanding of fiber optics, laser physics and heat transfer.
• Proficient in BPM and COMSOL.

Responsibilities

• Develop and customize BPM-based simulation templates for fiber combiners.
• Use FEM tools like COMSOL for thermal analysis in high-power conditions.
• Define benchmarks for insertion loss and beam quality from empirical data.
• Validate models against literature and experimental data.
• Collaborate with fabrication to diagnose performance gaps.
• Design, build, and maintain experimental setups for characterizing high-power fiber components.
• Measure insertion loss, beam quality (M²), and thermal performance under >200 W per port.
• Develop standardized testing procedures for consistent data across samples.
• Apply fiber index profiling and microscopic inspection to post-processing effects.
• Provide feedback to modeling and fabrication teams for a closed-loop cycle.
