What we are looking for

As part of this role you will provide specialist HSE business support to minimise risks to colleagues and the business. You will also ensure hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation and controls are appropriate to the risk achievable and effectively implemented. Additionally you will use experience and knowledge (both own and that of our clients and industry/sector bodies) ensuring complex/demanding situations are managed effectively to eliminate harm.

The role
  • Work with the HSE Business Partner to ensure the effective implementation of the Group HSE management system including identification of hazards and assessment of risk, monitoring of HSE performance, oversight and support for the closure of corrective actions.
  • Support and advise on HSE hazard identification, risk assessment and subsequent mitigations and controls development to minimise risk and assure the safety of colleagues and the business.
  • Support HSE Business Partners in developing and implementing HSE processes and risk‑management frameworks.
  • Ensure collaboration within the HSE Advisor community across different countries (within the region primarily) to ensure consistent safety standards and address local regulatory requirements, drive safety culture across diverse countries.
  • Ensure activities are carried out in line with internal procedures, regulations, industry standards or contractual requirements relating to HSE through effective monitoring, inspection and audits of activity.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Mentor/coach people leaders in operations ensuring best‑practice health, safety and environmental leadership practices are observed.
  • Horizon scan both internal and external changes, including the resolution of operational concerns to ensure a proactive and agile approach to problem‑solving, delivering effective, efficient and innovative solutions to concerns, building relationships with internal and external HSE client representatives, regulators and industry advisory groups to support change.
  • Ensure implementation of HSE programmes and changes are planned, evaluated and processed in accordance with local business requirements and agreed deadlines.
  • Be accountable for ensuring compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements; the LR HSE management system ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 are maintained.
  • Support the investigation of HSE events and make recommendations for corrective action and ensure actions are addressed on time, and learning from experience is effectively communicated to prevent further harm.
  • Be responsible for reviewing HSE performance by using insights to proactively support continual improvement activities, ensuring HSE programmes remain effective at minimising risk, including identifying and implementing learning from experience communications (both from internal and external sources).
  • Support Incident Response Teams and Critical Event Management Team to manage events ensuring HSE is actively considered in decision‑making.
What you bring
  • Graduate in a numerical related discipline with sufficient practical hands‑on experience of leading safety, occupational health and environment, preferably across multiple countries/cultures, commanding respect from operational/commercial teams.
  • Experience in HSE, actively involved in a high‑risk industry.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as IOSH, The American Society of Safety Engineers or the American Industrial Hygiene Association, etc., working towards becoming a certified safety professional.
  • Able to work with ambiguity across diverse and ever‑changing functions operating effectively within matrix reporting lines to support the achievement of key performance indicators and goals.
  • Fluent written and spoken English with ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Use own initiative, able to prioritise and work on multiple tasks while adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work as part of a team to contribute to achieving departmental / business objectives.
  • Computer literate in MS Office.
  • Flexible and results‑oriented approach to meet varying and competing business demands.
  • Adaptable and well organised with a practical minded approach.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels of the organisation.
  • Able to identify problems and suggest process improvements to ensure maximum efficiency.
Preferred but not required
  • Classification Society experience preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
