About Role

The Head of Secondary School has a key strategic and operational role and is a member of the Dehong School Leadership Team (DSLT). Members of the DSLT have joint responsibility for all aspects of the whole school relating to the education and development of students and staff; each has a focus of responsibilities, but all contribute to the whole and support the work of others.

Overall Responsibilities
  • Ensure the best possible learning and teaching, in the best possible environments, placing students at the heart of all decision making
  • Take responsibility for the safeguarding of students in her/his school, in line with the EiM safeguarding framework, policies and code of conduct and in collaboration with the Principal
  • Ensure the highest standards of Health and Safety in her/his school, in collaboration with the Principal and Director of Business and Administration
  • The day-to-day business management of the School, including the deployment of resources and of the budget
  • Provide support, guidance and leadership and be a model of good practice for all staff
  • Understand and address the needs of all stakeholders within the school community
Professional Duties
Curricular and Academic Responsibilities
  • Ensure Chinese and English curriculum delivery aligns with school aims and student needs.
  • Stay informed about global curriculum developments to support Dehong as a model of best practice.
  • Ensure accurate and accessible achievement measures for students and parents.
  • Monitor student progress from entry to departure.
  • Maintain open communication with students and parents on educational matters.
  • Work with DSLT and teachers on curriculum planning, design and management.
  • Recognise importance of transitions and vertical articulation.
  • Produce curriculum handbooks with relevant staff.
  • Manage timetabling and resource allocation.
  • Oversee school self-evaluation and improvement strategies.
  • Ensure effective performance and line management.
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate the learning and teaching policy, promoting Dehong values.
  • Organise and present at parental curriculum and information sessions.
Quality Management and Support for Staff
  • Promote strong staff collaboration.
  • Identify professional learning needs and make recommendations to DSLT and the Professional Learning Lead.Oversee the school’s performance management programme.
  • Lead recruitment with the Principal to ensure high-quality staff appointments.
  • Manage induction of new staff.
  • Ensure indoor and outdoor learning environments are well maintained and support learning.
Wellbeing
  • Take primary responsibility for student wellbeing from admission to departure, ensuring consistent practice across the school and appropriate guidance during transitions.
  • Oversee, monitor and evaluate the wellbeing policy, promoting Dehong ethos and values.
  • Coordinate student admissions with the Admissions team.
  • Support and encourage parental involvement.
Communication and Marketing
  • Ensure high-quality marketing with the Principal and Admissions, Marketing and Community Experience teams.
  • Maintain proactive communication with parents through online updates and newsletters.
Organization, Leadership and Management
  • Establish, review and develop aims, policies, structures, procedures and job descriptions aligned with whole-school policies.
  • Lead strategic planning, including the Senior School Improvement Plan.
  • Manage school budgets and delegate to departments where appropriate.
  • Oversee line management and support of all teaching and support staff.
  • Ensure high-quality staff meetings, leadership meetings and curriculum committee meetings, and attend Dehong Leadership Team meetings.
  • Lead production of Staff and Parent Handbooks.
  • Coach or mentor school leaders.
Extra-Curricular Leadership
  • Oversee effectiveness of co-curricular programmes, ECAs, assemblies, school trips, the House system and all activities beyond the formal classroom.
Relationships and Influence
  • Serve as ambassador and professional advocate for the school, building strong relationships with students, parents, community members, alumni, school bodies and external agencies.
  • Demonstrate experience working with government authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Create a sense of purpose that inspires followership and engagement with the school’s broader mission.
We are looking for someone who is
  • At least five years post qualification experience and specific qualifications to support
  • Bachelor or above degree is required
  • PGCE or QTS, Teaching License from non-UK countries are required
