Job description
Key Objective
  • Lead and manage the Property Portfolio (Fire & Terrorism) and serves as the top technical specialist to the business in a manner that contributes and ensures that the profitability objectives are met.
  • Collaborate, identify, develop and execute underwriting strategy for the property portfolio and drive underwriting efficiency to improve productivity
  • Develop/implement internal underwriting controls and governance and recommend changes to internal procedures as necessary.
  • Lead and manage the portfolio management process for the Property portfolio and identify profitable segment of business for each product.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
  • Financials: Develop and implement plans and objectives to drive profitable growth for the Property portfolio. Establish and execute strategies to meet the Property financial plan to achieve the overall financial objectives of the P&C Division. Accurately forecast Property renewal and new business numbers, rate change and retention. Ensure timely and accurate reporting as required.
  • Leadership: Collaborate with Major Account Division (MAD) and Small Commercial, Middle Market Division (SMD) leaders to set annual objectives/KPIs for the property underwriters to maximize performance. Provide technical advice to the Property underwriters across MAD and SMD. Evaluate, train and develop Property underwriters to ensure high performance and adequate level of expertise within their underwriting authority. Supervise Property underwriters in arriving at acceptance/rejection decisions on risks beyond their authority.
  • Underwriting Governance, Discipline and Efficiency: Evaluate, accept/reject or modify risks within established underwriting guidelines. Ensure that underwriting audits are conducted and completed and that feedback to management and Property underwriters is documented. Take ownership of Peer Reviews process, Underwriting Audits and Underwriting Referrals to ensure the tasks are completed within stipulated timeline. Monitors field compliance with key underwriting directives and follows up on recommendations. Drive underwriting efficiency through identifying gaps in the underwriting and referral process and implement solutions to maintain full adherence to the underwriting guidelines and authority.
  • Market Identification & Appetite Mapping: Map market opportunity and universe of Property products against Chubb targets and appetites within the portfolio. Keeping informed of new developments in underwriting activities and competitive practices and integrating learning into the product and the business plan. Build and implement sound Product Strategies for segments and distribution.
  • Market and Competitor Intelligence: Know the marketplace and understand competitive landscape, working with internal stakeholders to ensure strategies are most appropriate to meet opportunities.
  • Data management: Ensure accuracy of country universe of accounts within the various systems/databases.
  • Internal Engagement: Coordinate and lead our internal stakeholder collaboration across segments and distribution channels, ensuring strong teamwork, consistency and strength of messaging and oversight of multi-line of business referral coordination to present one-picture, one-proposition, ensuring the best of Chubb is put forwards from the outset.
  • Compliance: To ensure that the Company’s business is conducted with full compliance with all Group policies, relevant laws, rules and regulations
Skills
  • Ten + years’ experience in underwriting a large Regional book of property business in a production role with a proven record.
  • Bachelors degree or an MBA and Insurance certification.
  • A minimum of five years leadership experience including training and developing property underwriting staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate terms effectively.
  • Strong financial / analytical skills and excellent problem solving / decision-making abilities.
  • Experience chairing client meetings and excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while managing multiple priorities.
  • Sound project management experience.
  • English fluency is mandatory.
  • Fluency or proficiency with an Asian language is a plus.
