The Methodist Church in Singapore – Bukit Timah

The Methodist School of Music (MSM) is an agency of The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS). Its Worship and Music (WM) arm seeks to enhance the quality of worship by nurturing and equipping the body of Christ in the areas of Worship and Music. At the same time, as a private school registered with the Ministry of Education, the school offers various music instrumental and dance classes through its Community Music (CM) arm.

We have a vacancy for Head of Music School.

Responsibilities and Duties
Academic and Curriculum Leadership
  • Oversee the development of a distinctive, cohesive and relevant music curriculum for the range of instrumental classes currently offered.
  • Ensure multiple learner pathways: early childhood, hobbyist, adult, church-based, and professional.
  • Guide the integration of blended learning, asynchronous content, and music technology for instrumental music teaching.
  • Embed inclusive, neurodivergent-friendly teaching strategies.
Teacher Development and Faculty Engagement
  • Support and manage a diverse team of full-time, part-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Develop a tiered pay and recognition system for junior, senior, and master teachers.
  • Lead the faculty team to co-create institute‑distinctive teaching materials.
  • Mentor the faculty, guiding their professional development and fostering their sense of belonging to and pride for MSM.
Strategic Planning
  • Work closely and support the Executive Director to develop and implement school‑wide vision, goals, and strategic plan.
  • Work closely with the other senior leaders to ensure the school’s vision, mission, and goals are aligned with its strategic direction and further the vision and mission of the school.
Operational and Systems Oversight
  • Audit and streamline SOPs: scheduling, registration, feedback, audition and interview of potential faculty, new faculty onboarding and exit, etc.
  • Work closely with administration staff to implement digital tools (e.g. SMS, CRM).
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks (e.g. SkillsFuture, EduTrust, PDPA).
Business Development and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Drive enrolment growth through clear programme positioning and effective marketing that is based on data and/or market research.
  • Strengthen communications and relationship with parents of MSM students.
  • Strengthen community and church partnerships.
  • Explore new initiatives: symposiums, retail, short‑term programmes, international student services.
  • Explore partnership opportunities with stakeholders in the Methodist Church in Singapore to contribute towards music excellence in churches, schools, agencies.
Job Requirements
  • A relevant degree from an established institution or university with at least 7 years of relevant working experience.
  • Proven experience in music education leadership or arts‑based programme development.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum design and adult learning principles.
  • Experience managing teachers, developing Standard Operating Procedures, or coordinating operations.
  • Skilled communicator with a servant‑leadership approach.
  • Familiar with Singapore’s regulatory frameworks (e.g. SkillsFuture, EduTrust, PDPA).
  • Experience with digital learning platforms or music technology.
