Job Description & Requirements
The Head of Manufacturing Science is responsible for leading and managing the Manufacturing Sciences department on site. This role acts as an interface and contributes to the Global Manufacturing Sciences community within Takeda. It contributes to the local Senior Leadership Team of the Takeda Singapore site, establishes a lean and efficient organization under special consideration of the Takeda Leadership expectations, and leads process improvement programs and innovative technologies (for example, Process Analytical Technology) as part of the Takeda organization.
How you will contribute:
- Lead the Manufacturing Sciences team in driving results and deliverables, to support site and global Manufacturing Sciences objectives
- As a member and active participant of the site Senior Leadership Team, provide opinions and insights for strategic decisions
- Responsible for process monitoring and the fulfilment of all quality systems and policies as process owner
- Support all departments – act as process / product technical subject matter expert (SME) – generally and specifically in projects, investigations and problem solving
- Responsible for preparation and updating the department budget and fulfilment of budget targets
- Responsible for the hiring and training of new team members
- Identify, support and coach development of technical expertise within the organization
- Mentor and guide the Manufacturing Sciences team to build a succession pipeline
- Act as Singapore representative within the global Manufacturing Sciences network, for collaboration and project team governance
- Represent the Manufacturing Sciences team and the site in all internal and external audits
- Represent the Manufacturing Sciences team and site in industry networks and meetings
- Drive the continuous improvement of all processes and workflows to yield stable, lean and efficient manufacturing and business processes to achieve an efficient and lean organization by applying innovative, creative and purpose‑driven solutions
- Function as a key member of the receiving unit team for process technology transfer activities
- Adhere to any applicable EHS requirements
- Commit to a fair and respectful relationship to others and to behaviour in accordance with Takeda’s Code of Conduct
- Carry out any other duties assigned by supervisor
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience or Master’s/PhD degree with 8 years of relevant experience
- In‑depth knowledge of compliance guidelines and experience in interacting with regulatory authorities and official bodies such as FDA, EMA, etc.
- Experience in small‑scale requirements to support site manufacturing activities, new product introduction, product characterization and small‑scale validation
- Experience in large‑scale requirements for new product introduction, technology transfer, biologics manufacturing and process validation
- Good knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge in large‑scale new product introduction, technology transfer, biologics manufacturing and process validation
- Strong knowledge of cell biology, biochemistry, protein purification for large‑scale manufacturing processes
- Strong leadership skills with prior people‑management experience
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, able to coach and guide the team in resolving process issues
- Team worker – able to work in a matrix environment both locally and globally
- Independent worker / self‑starter
- Strong analytical skills including critical and objective logical thinking
- Strong leadership and communication skills, especially in working with different cultures and hierarchy levels
- Good communication, organizational and presentation skills

Takeda’s Singapore biologics manufacturing facility focuses on manufacturing potentially life‑saving medicines for patients suffering from rare blood disorders such as Hemophilia A and B. As part of the company’s Biologics Operating Unit network, the site is Takeda’s only biologics drug‑substance manufacturing facility in Asia. The facility has two buildings, including manufacturing suites and laboratories, as well as Takeda’s first positive energy building certified by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority’s Green Mark scheme in 2022.
Important Considerations:
- Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wearing protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. Additional hearing protection may be required for loud areas.
- Remove all make‑up, jewellery, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
- Work in a cold, wet environment.
- Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours.
- Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
