Responsibilities
  • Assist the Superintendent in the management of the Welfare Home in accordance with the Destitute Persons Act and Destitute Persons (Welfare Homes) Rules
  • Plan, manage and control the safe and overall efficient delivery of quality healthcare services to the residents in compliance with the relevant legislative requirements as well as Standard Operating Procedures, Guidelines, Service Standards and directives issued by the authorities
  • Responsible for carrying out preventive and curative medical services in the Home under the instructions of the medical doctor(s)
  • Audit and oversee multiple areas within the Home, including Pharmacist’s audit, outbreak management, incident reporting, medication management, medical observation, administrative processes related to admission/discharge/medical review, and documentation requirements for infectious disease notification, drug allergies, treatment changes, and discharge summaries
  • Administer/Arrange/Coordinate/Monitor rehabilitation treatment, vaccination and health screening as advised by authorities
  • Recommend nursing home placement for residents when appropriate
  • Develop and implement Fall Management Plan, Chronic Disease Care Plan, Infection Control Plan, Fluid Restriction Plan and other health care management plans where necessary
  • Oversee residents in segregation/isolation rooms/dormitories
  • Plan and coordinate the Home’s menu and Diet Management Plan
  • Participate in and ensure compliance with the Home’s Business Continuity Plan
  • Audit pre-packed medication and Resident Medical Records daily
  • Carry out daily rounds and supervise residents at mealtimes
  • Manage emergency cases such as first-aid and treatment of falls
  • Perform clinical role in the absence of staff nurse due to leave, training or vacancy
  • Supervise nursing staff on clinical practices
  • Monitor and analyse performance indicators and suggest improvements
  • Participate in clinical/service quality improvement activities
  • Prepare and/or maintain documentation including Incident Reports, Case Review Reports, Medical Reports and other required reports
  • Contribute to formulation and implementation of Individual Care Plans
  • Maintain Medical Database
  • Prepare duty roster for nursing team and reallocate staff as needed during shortages
  • Responsible for the form control function of the Nursing and Therapy Unit
  • Apply Medik Awas for residents as required
  • Prepare and/or conduct orientation and in-service training for new nurses and other staff
  • Contribute to preceptorship and appraisal of nurses
  • Recommend nursing staff for appropriate training programmes
  • Prepare and/or conduct health education talks to residents
  • Conduct competency assessments for Nursing Staff as required
  • Maintain budget for medical-related expenses and related procurement
  • Monitor and purchase medical-related items including supportive devices, consumables and milk supplements
  • Ensure appropriate approvals and quotations are obtained prior to purchase of medical equipment, items and consumables
  • Attend to inspections/audits by the Board of Visitors or Ministry of Social and Family Development
  • Participate in committee meetings and presentations as required
  • Update the Home’s doctor of any Medical Advisory by the Authorities, as required
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Work Location

The Welfare Home provides care for destitute persons, and the work location will be at Buangkok Green.

Thuja Home at Pelangi Village is a four-storey facility with a capacity of 239 beds, catering to female destitute persons. The workplace is located at Buangkok Green.
