Job description

Trainees will join the CIB Global Banking – Capital Markets team for up to 6-months to provide support for the debt capital markets business for the ASEAN region.

Responsibilities
1. Strategy
  • Awareness and understanding of the Group’s business strategy and model appropriate to the role
  • Coordination of customer relationships and build effective long‑term relationship with clients
  • Support the identification of customer and origination opportunities for Debt Capital Markets transactions and to drive the business within the bank’s directed strategy and to continue to drive the business forward striving for sustainable competitive advantage and profitability
  • To support establishment of SCB as a name player in global debt capital markets
  • Identification of in‑country competitive threats and market opportunities, to feed into product strategy
2. Business
  • Origination of Capital Markets business for ASEAN clients
  • To assist the Capital Markets team in the financial/credit analysis of target clients and market analysis
  • To effectively assist in the execution of Capital Markets transactions
  • Risk Management across all CM activities in ASEAN
  • To assist in the implementation of internal processes such as the preparation and receipts of Name Clearance, Debt Commitments Committee approval memo, Underwriting Applications; documentation, due diligence, legal liaison, regulatory, etc
  • To effectively support the Capital Markets team in operations, research, meetings, presentations, ceremonies and etc
  • To liaise with FM Sales for the implementation of the sales strategy of capital markets transactions
  • To liaise with FM Operations for the implementation of internal processes of capital markets transactions
3. Processes
  • To assist in ensuring that all processes are in accordance with all internal risk processes including Legal and Compliance
4. Risk management
  • Responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks to the Group.
  • Command the ability to interpret the Group's financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures
  • Ensure regulatory, internal and conduct compliance across the different geographies in ASEAN
5. Governance
  • Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the Group's arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight and controls in the business and, if necessary, oversee changes in these areas
  • Be aware of and understand the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
  • Responsible for delivering 'effective governance'; capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner.
  • Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place and operating effectively.
  • To fully comply with group Policy and Standard on Money Laundering Prevention or local regulatory requirements for the prevention of Money Laundering
6. Regulatory & Business Conduct
  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Eligibility and Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 and 2025 from universities
  • Have the permanent legal right to work in Singapore
  • Keen interest in fixed income
  • Self‑motivated, analytical, attention to detail and the strong ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and work ethics
  • Proficiency in Excel and Powerpoint
