Get to Know the Role

This role sits within Grab's Analytics organisation on the Finance Data team. The trainee will work on the Finance Data Warehouse (FDW), which powers company-wide financial metrics and reporting.

You'll gain hands-on experience building reliable data models and pipelines, supporting a migration project using dbt and Spark, and collaborating with Finance and Analytics stakeholders to deliver trusted, production-ready data.

This is a 6 months full-time onsite role based in Singapore as part of the GRIT Programme.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

The trainee will be involved in the following areas:

  • Contributing to the migration of existing data pipelines and models to dbt and Spark within the FDW.
  • Writing and reviewing SQL to understand, refactor, and optimize data transformations.
  • Performing data validation and reconciliation of key financial metrics.
  • Improving code quality (tests, refactoring, documentation).
  • Assisting with workflow orchestration (e.g., Airflow DAG updates, job monitoring, alert handling)
Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

  1. Practical data warehousing concepts.
  2. Building modular ELT with dbt (models, macros, tests, documentation) and Spark (performance considerations).
  3. SQL techniques for analytics engineering (CTEs, window functions, optimization).
  4. Data validation and observability practices (testing strategies, lineage awareness, monitoring & alerting).
  5. Workflow orchestration fundamentals with Airflow.
