We are seeking a meticulous and reliable GL Accountant to manage the full general ledger function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This role is responsible for month-end and year-end closing, account reconciliations, and maintaining the integrity of the company's books in accordance with relevant accounting standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable working across multiple entities or cost centres.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End & Year-End Closing
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and prepayments to ensure accurate monthly closing
- Perform balance sheet and P&L account reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
- Support year-end closing activities, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation for audit
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly management accounts and variance analysis for review by senior finance team members
- Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure consistency in account mapping and classification
- Assist in preparing financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., SFRS)
Reconciliations & Controls
- Perform bank reconciliations and intercompany reconciliations
- Review and reconcile fixed asset registers, depreciation schedules, and accruals
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with internal controls and SOPs
Audit & Compliance
- Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing schedules, explanations, and supporting documents as required
- Support statutory audit, tax filing (GST/corporate tax) and other regulatory submissions
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards and relevant regulatory requirements
Process Improvement & Ad Hoc Support
- Identify opportunities to streamline GL processes and improve efficiency
- Support system enhancements, including testing and documentation of GL-related workflows
- Perform other ad hoc duties and projects as assigned by the Finance Manager
Requirements
Education
- Diploma or Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related field
- Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CA) is an advantage, or progress towards one
Experience
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, or audit
- Experience with multi-entity or group consolidation environments is a plus
- Prior exposure to ERP/accounting systems (SAP, Oracle, Navision, or similar) preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, basic financial modelling)
- Good organisational skills, able to manage multiple deadlines independently
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with other departments
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
