A maritime services company based in Singapore is seeking an experienced professional to oversee technical responsibilities related to cargo and nitrogen systems. The ideal candidate should be a Chief Engineer or hold equivalent qualifications with at least one year of sailing experience on gas carriers. Job description
Key Responsibilities
  • Reports directly to the Fleet Manager, Technical & GasTech. Responsible for the overall technical responsibility of Cargo, Reliquification plant and Nitrogen systems, including but not limited to operational support and technical maintenance support as per the company’s IMS procedures and policies.
  • Experienced in handling refrigerated gas cargoes – Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, VCM.
  • Support the Technical, Marine Operations and Commercial Team on matters related to gas technical issues and cargo handling.
  • Supervise the Fleet’s cargo operations, grade changes, Cargo equipment maintenance and monitor Cargo equipment performance regularly.
  • Responsible for monitoring and compliance to company standards for refrigerant management on board.
  • Visit and sail onboard as per designated schedules to carry out inspections, get firsthand overview of the vessel’s cargo equipment condition, and assess the crew competencies. Prepare Management inspection reports / Audit reports related to Cargo equipment.
  • Visit and sail onboard to support the vessels staff in case of technical problems or critical operations.
  • Organize and provide portable gas instrumentation for the vessels and support with shore service and calibration. Provide gas detection and sensor calibration related procedures, maintenance guidance and crew training procedures.
  • Ensure Systems Planned Maintenance System is continuously maintained and updated with Cargo and N2 related instructions, jobs and maintenance interval/s.
  • Assist in providing and implementing guidance related to IGC Code interpretations, Marine Operational requirements, and any other cargo related information by commercial department.
  • Support new building projects regarding layout, operation, and performance of cargo plants.
  • Propose continual improvements to HSEQC & Technical team related to the Cargo handling, Gas Carrier Manual procedures based on vessels feedback, new requirements, changing technologies, market needs and specific customer requirements. Implement finalized improvements fleetwide.
  • Liaise with the Vessel Performance team to enhance the fleets safety and operational performance by embracing innovative and modern technologies and progress fleet’s digitalization.
  • Liaise with the Learning & Development (L&D) team to provide inputs in development of shore training program, crew competence maturing and training incl. crew seminars and training clinics. Support the development of BWEK cargo simulator and implementation.
  • Crisis Management and Emergency Response duties as per the Emergency Response Manual.
  • Ensure tracking of onboard recommended spares and ashore common stock spares for Cargo and N2 systems.
  • Assist as required for Incident investigation on cargo related matters. Propose preventive and corrective actions to the HSEQC & Technical team for finalization. Responsible for implementation of these actions.
  • Liaise with Project Team for execution of upgradation projects aiming to enhance service life of onboard electronic and mechanical components of Cargo equipment.
  • Assess competence of onboard Gas Engineers and provide inputs leading to improvement in their knowledge and skills.
Requirements
  • Chief Engineer, or 2nd Engineer, or Cargo Engineer, or relevant process engineering experience in Gas Plants
  • Sailing Experience on Gas carriers - 1 year or more as a C/E or more than 24 months as Second or Cargo Engineer. OR 1-year relevant Process engineering experience in Gas Plants
  • Experience of 1 year or more as a Ship Manager on handling Gas Carriers
  • Ability to travel at short notice and manage 24/7 on call lifestyle.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Committed and responsible in meeting deadlines with excellent time management skills.
  • Independent, outcome driven, organized and resourceful.
  • Strong team orientation and has the ability to manage cross-functional relationships in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
