Job description
About the Asia Climate Philanthropy Advisory

There is a pressing need to intensify climate action in Asia, with climate change threatening economic losses of up to USD 57 billion and increases in poverty populations of up to 200 million people in Asia-Pacific by 2040. Significant wealth growth in Asia offers a unique opportunity for Asian philanthropists to plug the existing finance gaps, yet climate giving in the region has not kept pace—of the 2% of global philanthropic funding going towards climate, only 12% currently comes from Asia.

The Asia Climate Philanthropy Advisory is the first of its kind in the region dedicated to driving increased climate-focused philanthropy and advocacy in Asia, with a strategic market focus on high-potential countries such as Hong Kong and Singapore—both of which are characterised by a critical base of ecosystem intermediaries, robust financial infrastructures, and a high density of ultra-high-net-worth-individuals.

The Asia Climate Philanthropy Advisory is a brand new initiative being incubated by several leading philanthropists and climate foundations in Asia and around the world, and is initially hosted by Tara Climate Foundation, based in Singapore. The Advisory is dedicated to gravitating Asian philanthropists towards climate by empowering them with the knowledge, guided support and connections they need to make strategic, impactful contributions—through their philanthropic capital and advocacy. Through tailored content and vetted solutions, the Advisory will cut through the perceived complexity of climate to foster deeper engagement and plug philanthropists into a diverse network of climate-focused experts, peers and partners.

With a view to raise the number of philanthropists advocating and deploying capital for climate action in Asia, the Advisory delivers on the following services:

  • Bespoke support: 1-to-1 and 1-to-few advisory support and education on climate topics
  • Asia Climate Knowledge: High-integrity climate content with intersectional interests
  • Giving Opportunities and Pathways: Curated and vetted solutions-portfolios, and tailored proposals aligned to the geographic and thematic interests of donors
  • Curated Climate Community: Facilitated access to and engagement with an in-built community of climate actors (i.e. peer philanthropists, field partners, and experts)
About the Role

The Fundraising Research Officer plays a key role in supporting ACPA’s mission to grow climate philanthropy across Asia. The Fundraising Research Officer initiates and responds to research requests in a timely manner, analysing and synthesising information, and generating profiles, memos and reports. The Fundraising Research Officer qualifies, screens, and rates potential donors, and proactively identifies new prospective major and principal gift donors.

The ideal candidate combines analytical rigour with cultural sensitivity and curiosity about Asia’s diverse philanthropic landscape.

Key responsibilities
1. Donor Intelligence & Profiling
  • Use a range of regional and global data sources (public records, databases, media, and relationship networks) to develop clear, concise profiles on prospects, covering background, business interests, philanthropic focus areas, and connection to climate or adjacent themes (e.g., nature, health, livelihoods)
  • Tailor research insights to the nuances of Asian giving, including family-owned business dynamics, intergenerational wealth transitions, and culturally embedded motivations for giving
  • Conduct light financial analysis of publicly available wealth indicators to estimate potential giving capacity
  • Interpret wealth and influence in context—considering reputation, business footprint, and social capital, not just net worth
2. Intelligence, Knowledge & Systems Management
  • Monitor philanthropic, corporate, and policy news across Asian markets to identify relevant trends and partnership opportunities
  • Maintain and regularly update the ACPA CRM/donor database with new insights, ensuring alignment with data privacy and ethical research standards
  • Stay current with best practices in prospect research, wealth screening, and philanthropic trend analysis—with a focus on Asia’s evolving giving landscape
  • Track research activity for prospect research and fundraising related KPI measurement
3. Strategic Analysis
  • Map key geographic and sectoral landscapes to help ACPA assess fundraising and partnership viability across priority markets in Asia
  • Generate donor segmentation and trend analyses to inform engagement strategies and leadership decision-making.
4. Additional Duties
  • Support team projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed, especially those related to donor engagement and partnership development.
Person Specification

Excited by the prospect of working for a dynamic and fast-growing international organisation dedicated to driving philanthropic growth to address Asia’s climate crisis, the ideal candidate will have at least two years of professional experience at a non-profit organisation, with one or more years of experience using a relational database management system.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications
Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve, manipulate, analyse and synthesise information gathered from a variety of sources (electronic, print, and personal accounts)
  • Proficiency conducting research using a variety of online research databases and other resources required
  • High attention to detail and follow-up, and excellent organisational skills required – including the ability to prioritise and multi-task several projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of philanthropy, donor engagement cycle and fundraising practices
Additional attributes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • While not mandatory, a genuine interest in climate change and social impact, and ability to quickly grasp related concepts are desirable
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a small, collaborative team
  • Excellent events, project management and coordination abilities
  • Track record of working in environments requiring professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Resourceful problem-solving skills with a proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude towards challenges and changes
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact required
  • Alignment with ACPA’s mission and commitment to embodying ACPA values
