About the Role

We are looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer with an AI focus to join our technology team in building secure, scalable and user-centric digital solutions that deliver meaningful outcomes for citizens, businesses and public officers.

You will work across the full software development lifecycle - from solution design and architecture through development, testing, deployment and production support. You will also play a key role in applying Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI and Machine Learning to enhance digital services, automate processes and enable data-driven decision making.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, building production-grade applications and translating emerging AI capabilities into practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Full Stack Engineering

• Design, develop and maintain scalable web applications and digital services across the front end and back end.
• Build intuitive, accessible and responsive user interfaces using modern web technologies.
• Develop secure, reliable and well-documented APIs and backend services.
• Design and work with relational and NoSQL databases, data models and integration services.
• Integrate applications with internal systems, government platforms and third-party services.
• Write clean, maintainable, testable and production-ready code.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions and engineering best practices.
• Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve application performance, reliability and scalability.

AI / Generative AI

• Design and develop AI-powered features and applications using technologies such as LLMs, Generative AI, RAG, AI agents and Machine Learning.
• Integrate commercial and/or open-source AI models into production applications through APIs and model-serving platforms.
• Build AI workflows involving prompt engineering, retrieval, embeddings, vector databases and knowledge bases.
• Evaluate AI solutions for accuracy, reliability, latency, cost and user experience.
• Implement appropriate safeguards for AI applications, including data protection, access control, human oversight and responsible AI practices.
• Prototype emerging AI technologies and assess their potential for government use cases.
• Work with data, product and business stakeholders to identify opportunities where AI can improve operational efficiency or citizen services.

Cloud, DevSecOps & Engineering Excellence

• Develop and deploy applications using modern cloud and container technologies.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring and observability.
• Apply secure software development practices throughout the development lifecycle.
• Ensure solutions comply with relevant government security, data protection, architecture and technology standards.
• Contribute to system architecture, technical documentation and operational readiness.
• Monitor application health, performance and security and participate in incident resolution.

Collaboration

• Work closely with product managers, UX designers, data scientists, cybersecurity teams and business stakeholders.
• Translate business and user requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering standards and practices.

Requirements

Technical Skills

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
• Strong software engineering experience developing production-grade applications.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Python, C#, Go or Node.js/TypeScript.
• Strong experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Angular or Vue.js.
• Good understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures and system integration.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or MS SQL, and familiarity with NoSQL technologies.
• Experience with Git and modern software development practices, including automated testing and code review.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
• Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes is advantageous.

AI / Data Skills

• Practical experience integrating Generative AI or LLM capabilities into software applications.
• Understanding of concepts such as:
• Prompt engineering
• Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
• Embeddings and vector databases
• LLM APIs and model integration
• AI agents and tool/function calling
• Model evaluation and monitoring
• Experience with AI frameworks or tools such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel or equivalent is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Python-based AI/ML libraries and frameworks is a plus.
• Understanding of AI security, privacy, governance and responsible AI principles is highly desirable.

Preferred Experience
