We are looking for a hands‑on, data-driven Fraud Lead to own payment fraud prevention and chargeback risk within a global digital assets and payments business.
The business operates across fiat and digital asset payment flows, supporting multiple payment methods, including cards, digital wallets and bank transfers, across a broad network of payment partners and international markets.
You will be responsible for fraud strategy, fraud losses, chargeback performance, risk controls, fraud prevention vendors and incident response. This role combines strategic ownership with hands‑on execution, requiring you to work directly with fraud rules, risk data and payment performance while leading a small fraud and risk operations team.
The key objective is to support business growth while maintaining effective risk controls, optimising approval rates and managing fraud losses across existing and new markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end payment fraud performance, including fraud losses, chargeback rates and payment approval rates. Develop and execute fraud prevention strategies across markets, payment methods and partners.
- Lead the response to active fraud attacks, including detection, investigation, containment and recovery. Establish incident response procedures and continuously improve fraud detection capabilities.
- Own the configuration and optimisation of fraud rules, risk thresholds and transaction monitoring systems. Analyse transaction data, customer behaviour and fraud trends to improve detection accuracy and payment conversion.
- Manage chargeback performance across card networks and other payment methods, working with payment processors and acquiring partners to reduce disputes and maintain processing capabilities.
- Manage fraud prevention vendors and risk technology providers, driving improvements in risk decisioning tools, transaction monitoring and fraud detection infrastructure.
- Assess fraud risks associated with new markets, payment methods and partners. Work closely with Product, Engineering, Payments and Commercial teams to support business expansion.
- Lead a small fraud and risk operations team, while working closely with cross‑functional stakeholders to balance fraud prevention, payment approval rates and business growth.
Requirements
- Significant experience in payment fraud prevention, fraud risk management or payment risk operations within fintech, digital assets or the payments industry.
- Strong experience in both digital assets and payments, ideally involving crypto exchanges, fiat‑to‑crypto payment flows, on/off‑ramp businesses or digital asset payment platforms.
- Strong understanding of card payment fraud, chargeback processes, payment scheme requirements and fraud prevention controls.
- Hands‑on experience configuring and optimising fraud rules, transaction monitoring systems and risk decisioning tools.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret transaction data, identify fraud patterns and make evidence‑based decisions.
- Experience balancing fraud loss prevention with payment approval rates and business conversion.
- Proven ability to investigate and respond to active fraud attacks and implement effective containment measures.
- Experience managing relationships with payment processors, acquiring partners and fraud technology vendors.
- Ability to lead a team while remaining directly involved in day‑to‑day fraud operations and optimisation.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across technical and commercial teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with alternative payment methods such as PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and local payment rails.
- Experience managing fraud risks across Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa or other emerging markets.
- Familiarity with 3D Secure, card network monitoring programmes, dispute representment and fraud prevention tools.
- Experience supporting new market launches, payment method integrations or rapid transaction volume growth.
