A leading global trading firm in Singapore seeks an experienced accountant to manage financial reporting and consolidations. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of accounting experience, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. Responsibilities include handling journal entries, liaising with auditors, and preparing financial documentation. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential for success in this demanding role.
· Provide support to respective Regional and Financial Controller.
· Co-ordinate monthly consolidations and reporting.
· Preparation and finalisation of various of Statutory Accounts, both consolidated and legal entity accounts.
· The role also involves investigation and improvement of procedures as well as the submission of monthly reporting packs. Working closely with the Front/Mid/Back Office in a fast moving business where inherent risk has to be mitigated by implementing imaginative and effective controls.
· Manage Cash flow position on a weekly basis co-ordinating key information from Angola, South Africa, DRC and Singapore.
· Take ownership of ledgers and have responsibility for all aspects of the monthly financial reporting.
· Become the key point of contact in Accounting for the trading desks related to your ledgers. Work closely with the business to understand the transactions they are undertaking and ensure these are recorded appropriately in both the trading systems and accounting ledgers.
· Review profit and accrual numbers and challenge the business as to the appropriateness of aged accruals and provisions.
· Prepare and post journal entries and invoices in various systems as required and review system generated entries as well as journals posted by others so as to ensure correct disclosure.
· As and when issues arise with systems, quality of information provided by other departments etc., follow up with Front/Mid Office to facilitate change and ultimately ensure the Accounts are true and accurate.
· Prepare monthly consolidation – collating packs, reconciling to ledgers, distributing reports
· Submission of monthly results to Group Accounting.
· Prepare a monthly commentary to Group Accounts based on the content and significant movements on the balance sheet and present this as part of a monthly ledger review.
· Preparation of supporting documentation to assist Tax Team prepare corporate tax return.
· Other Adhoc Regional MEA tasks as advised with specific Focus on Angola.
· Qualified accountant + 10 years Accounting experience.
· At least 10 years work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa region.
· Self motivated with a mature attitude. Able to cope in a stressful, demanding environment.
· Strong communication skills. Must be persuasive and able to gain attention and action from members of other teams whose immediate objectives are not always aligned with our own.
· Drive and determination to obtain understanding of complex, business-driven transactions and report these accurately according to the appropriate accounting standards.
· Excellent analytical skills and ability to identify and focus on the key issues.
· Attention to detail is paramount.
· Team player with an enthusiastic approach to fresh challenges. Aspires to be a team leader. Supports guides and motivates junior team members.
· Intermediate/advanced Excel skills and a willingness to use technology to complete/ improve daily tasks.
· SUN and Navitrans Accounting Software.
· Local expertise of local regulations from a regulatory and tax perspective in Angola and DRC.
