Job summary

Pacific Island Express Services is seeking a hands-on Finance Manager to own the full-set accounts and lead the day-to-day finance function of our shipping and freight forwarding operations.

This role suits someone who has progressed through an accounting team and is ready to take full ownership of the reporting cycle, closing books on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis with clear variance commentary.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant accounting experience, including full sets of accounts.
• Experience closing monthly, quarterly and annual accounts with variance commentary.
• Working knowledge of Singapore GST and IRAS filing requirements (GST F5, Form C-S/C).
• Familiar with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS).
• Proficient in Excel and accounting systems such as Xero, MYOB, SAP or NetSuite.

Responsibilities

• Manage full sets of accounts (AR, AP, GL, bank reconciliations, fixed assets).
• Close books within deadlines and prepare management reports with variance commentary.
• Handle multi-currency transactions and FX revaluations for international activity.
• Perform job costing and margin analysis for freight jobs.
• Prepare GST returns and corporate tax submissions to IRAS; ensure compliance.
• Prepare budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash flow projections.
• Manage credit control and monitor customer ageing with the commercial team.
• Liaise with auditors, tax agents, company secretary, and bankers.
• Strengthen internal controls, SOPs and approval workflows.
• Support pricing, route profitability and business decisions with ad-hoc analysis.

About the Role

Pacific Island Express Services is looking for a hands-on Finance Manager to take ownership of our full-set accounts and lead the day-to-day finance function of our shipping and freight forwarding operations. This is a broad role suited to someone who has grown through an accounting team and is ready to step up into full ownership of the reporting cycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage full sets of accounts, including AR, AP, GL, bank reconciliations and fixed asset registers
• Close monthly, quarterly and annual accounts within agreed deadlines, and prepare management reports with variance commentary
• Handle multi-currency transactions and foreign exchange revaluation arising from international freight and shipping activity
• Perform job costing and margin analysis for freight jobs, including reconciliation of carrier invoices, freight charges and disbursements
• Prepare and file quarterly GST returns and annual corporate tax submissions to IRAS, ensuring compliance with Singapore tax and statutory requirements
• Prepare annual budgets, rolling forecasts and cash flow projections
• Manage credit control, monitor customer ageing and follow up on overdue accounts with the commercial team
• Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, company secretary and bankers
• Review and strengthen internal controls, finance SOPs and approval workflows
• Support management with ad-hoc financial analysis for pricing, route profitability and business decisions

Requirements

• Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA or equivalent
• At least 3 years of relevant accounting experience, including experience handling full sets of accounts independently
• Working knowledge of Singapore GST rules and IRAS filing requirements (GST F5, Form C-S/C) - this is essential for the role
• Familiar with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS)
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups) and comfortable working in an accounting system such as Xero, MYOB, SAP, NetSuite or similar
• Experience in shipping, freight forwarding, logistics or trading is an advantage, particularly exposure to multi-currency and job costing
• Strong attention to detail, able to meet closing deadlines and work independently in a lean team
• Good communication skills, comfortable working with operations and commercial colleagues who are not from a finance background
