Role Purpose
Lead and execute the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of industrial water and wastewater treatment systems at customer facilities. The Field Service Engineer ensures plant reliability, water quality compliance, and high service performance while supervising a team of service technicians. This role bridges technical expertise, field leadership, and customer engagement to uphold Century Water’s service excellence standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Technical Support
- Oversee daily operations, monitoring, and control of treatment systems such as UF, RO, EDI, DI, IX, softener, mixed bed, media/carbon filters, dosing, neutralization, and sludge dewatering units.
- Analyze plant trends, alarms, and process data via SCADA/HMI to identify abnormalities and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct process optimization to improve energy efficiency, recovery rates, and chemical usage.
- Ensure compliance with PUB/NEA discharge limits and internal QA/QC standards.
Maintenance Planning & Execution
- Plan, schedule, and supervise preventive and corrective maintenance activities for pumps, valves, membranes, instruments, and control systems.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults.
- Ensure spare parts inventory and maintenance logs are properly updated in CMMS systems.
- Support performance testing, refurbishment, and membrane integrity checks.
Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I)
- Perform or supervise calibration and configuration of process instruments (pH, conductivity, turbidity, DO, flow, pressure, level, chlorine analyzers).
- Carry out loop checks, verify control signals, and diagnose MCC/VFD issues.
- Coordinate with automation engineers for PLC/SCADA system fault isolation and reinstatement.
- Ensure compliance with safe isolation, LOTO, and electrical safety procedures.
Team Leadership & Training
- Lead and motivate a team of >10 field service technicians, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to SOPs and QHSE requirements.
- Provide technical coaching, skill assessments, and on-the-job training to junior technicians.
- Conduct daily toolbox meetings, safety briefings, and client coordination sessions.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the service group.
Project & Commissioning Support
- Participate in FAT/SAT, commissioning, and start-up of new or retrofit systems.
- Support installation, site acceptance, and integration with existing plant infrastructure.
- Conduct system performance verification and customer handover documentation.
Compliance, Documentation & Customer Interface
- Ensure adherence to PTW, risk assessment, confined space, chemical handling, and work-at-height protocols.
- Prepare and submit detailed service reports, calibration certificates, performance summaries, and CAPA recommendations.
- Act as the technical point-of-contact for customers, providing professional advice and ensuring service satisfaction.
- Participate in standby/on-call duties as per rotation schedule.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in operating, maintaining, or servicing industrial water and wastewater treatment systems (UF, RO, EDI, DI, IX, neutralization, WWTP).
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate a field service team (>10 personnel).
- Working knowledge of process instrumentation, MCCs, and VFDs.
- Competence in interpreting P&IDs, electrical diagrams, and control logic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CMMS/e-reporting tools, and data analysis.
- Strong communication and customer relationship management skills.
- Physically fit and willing to travel frequently across sites.
- Eligible to work in Singapore.
Good-to-Have
- Experience in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or high-purity water applications.
- Familiarity with PUB/NEA environmental regulations and sample collection protocols.
- WSQ safety certifications (Confined Space, Work at Height, LOTO, Chemical Handling).
- Knowledge of Modbus, Profibus, or Profinet communication protocols.
