The Hosting Support Services (HSS) team drives the transformation and modernisation of operations management practices and services for IT systems across the Singapore Government, designing, providing and continuously enhancing the suite of operations management services for Government Agencies.
The Product Operations Specialist for Field Operations Engineering is responsible for managing the operational aspects of field-based technical services and driving their success from implementation to ongoing support. This role focuses on technical delivery, infrastructure maintenance, cloud infrastructure provisioning, and ensuring optimal performance of field operations while maintaining compliance with GovTech standards and audit readiness.
At this level, the Field Engineer develops operational strategies for field services, working closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver on technical objectives. They define operational requirements for field activities, prioritise improvements based on business impact, and ensure that field operations run smoothly and efficiently through cloud technologies, automation, and adherence to GovTech Engineering Practices.
The Field Engineer regularly interacts with clients, site personnel, and internal stakeholders, balancing user needs, operational demands, and business objectives to deliver technical solutions in the field environment whilst ensuring compliance with government standards and frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- a. Contribute to implementing data‑driven approaches to inform field operations and technical decisions that contribute to providing feedback to project managers and technical leads.
- b. Accountable for conducting site assessments and technical evaluations to inform operational improvements.
- c. Contribute to the setup and configuration of infrastructure, tools, technical environments, cloud infrastructure, and platform services.
- d. Contribute to automating field processes through scripting and pipeline development.
- e. Contribute to identifying and assessing field operational risks, propose and/or implement mitigation strategies (including safety protocols and incident management processes).
- f. Accountable for audit support activities, including the extraction of evidence and documentation for compliance requirements.
- g. Manage and fulfil service requests, assessing technical impact and resource requirements.
- h. Accountable for provisioning and configuration of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and frameworks.
- i. Contribute to configuring and managing middleware components within cloud platforms.
- j. Contribute to developing and maintaining automation scripts for field operations, cloud deployments, and platform configurations.
- k. Contribute to implementing CI/CD pipelines, eg, SHIP‑HATS for field service delivery, infrastructure management, and middleware deployment.
- l. Accountable for implementing GovTech standards through HSS processes and frameworks from GovTech Engineering Practices.
- m. Contribute to the deployment and configuration of GovTech‑mandated solutions, including ABLR, CAMS.
- n. Contribute to ensuring field operations align with government security and hosting requirements.
- o. Contribute to drive client satisfaction and service adoption by engaging customers, collecting feedback, and resolving technical queries to inform service iterations.
- p. Contribute to compliance monitoring and evidence collection to support audit, regulatory, and GovTech requirements.
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- i. Working experience in Managed Services for infrastructure (on‑premise/Cloud).
- ii. 3 to 5 years of working experience in the BAU field operations, including routine maintenance, monitoring, change management, and operational support activities.
- iii. Working experience with managed services delivery models, governance frameworks, and operational excellence methodologies.
- iv. Working experience with BAU operations, including operational reporting and routine maintenance activities.
- v. Working experience with managed services commercial models, SLA structures, and performance measurement frameworks.
- vi. Problem‑solving abilities and innovative thinking with experience in data‑driven decision making.
- vii. Ability to communicate well and technical writing skills to conduct user research.
Preferred Experience
- i. Working experience in leading and managing technical teams, eg, field engineers, is an advantage.
- ii. Cloud infrastructure and services expertise in AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
- iii. Working knowledge of infrastructure automation and scripting capabilities (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Python).
- iv. Working knowledge of DevOps practices.
- v. Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and operational excellence methodologies.
- vi. Hands‑on SG-TechStack products working experience (StackOps, SHIP-HATS).
- vii. Ability to gather customer requirements for analysis to contribute to business case development.
- viii. Multi-site field operations experience.
