Job description
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for developing, optimising, and validating thermoplastic extrusion processes used in medical and precision tubing applications.
  • This role focuses on process understanding, tooling performance, and material behaviour across a range of TPEs and engineering plastics to ensure dimensional precision, process stability, and consistent product quality.
Requirements
  • Hands-on experience in the extrusion or process development of medical-grade thermoplastic products, including but not limited to: tubing and micro-bore tubing; single-lumen catheter tubing; multi-lumen tubing; multi-layer tubing; multi-material tubing; braid-reinforced tubing; multi-hardness tubing; coil-reinforced tubing; balloon tubing; tapered tubing; profiles and custom profile co-extrusions; co-extrusion structures.
  • Experienced with extrusion systems, downstream processes, and medical-grade thermoplastic materials used in precision tubing and co-extrusion manufacturing, including: operation of single-screw, twin-screw, and co-extrusion systems for mono-, multi-layer, and multi-material tubing; setup and control of vacuum sizing and calibration tanks for OD/ID accuracy and concentricity control; experience with laser and ultrasonic measurement systems for real-time OD, wall thickness, and concentricity calibration; processing experience with Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs) such as PVC, TPU, TPO, TPV, SEBS, TPE-S, TPE-O, etc.; processing experience with Engineering Plastics such as PEBAX, Nylon (PA 6, 11, 12), PBT, PC, PSU, PPSU, PEEK, etc.; exposure to cleanroom extrusion environments and integration with secondary operations (e.g., tipping, flaring, bonding).
  • Familiar with multi-lumen and co-extrusion tooling, flow balancing, and pressure management.
  • Strong understanding of melt flow dynamics, die design principles, and extrusion process stability.
  • Experienced in conducting process capability studies (Cp, Cpk).
  • Able to interpret and apply rheological data, thermal properties, and viscosity profiles.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) and process analysis software (Minitab/JMP).
  • Experienced within a medical extrusion environment operating under ISO 13485, GMP, or equivalent quality systems, including exposure to process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), cleanroom manufacturing, and biocompatible polymer processing.
