Job description
Engineer (Electrical, Automation and Systems)
Job Description

It is an exciting time in the marine and offshore industry. The industry is undergoing great change where new technologies are being applied in ship’s systems such as advanced automation, new battery chemistries, all-electric vessels, cyber resilience, smart and autonomous functions. This job will provide the successful candidate a first-hand experience in the advancement taking place in the industry.

We are looking for engineers who enjoy engineering challenges, are creative, self-motivated and meticulous. You will need to understand engineering drawings and documents, evaluate the systems in accordance with ABS Rules and international shipping regulations and propose practical solutions.

You will work with engineers across disciplines (e.g. structures, mechanical, piping and cyber security) in a diverse, global and fast-paced environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Under the supervision of an experienced engineer or engineering manager, perform detailed engineering review of plans as assigned for compliance with applicable ABS Rules/Guides, IMO and National Regulations and contract commitments. Examples are electrical single line diagrams, automation systems control schematics, software functional description documents and cyber resilience plans.
  • Perform work which involves conventional engineering practices but may include moderately complex problems such as the resolution of conflicting design requirements, coordination of activities among other disciplines or evaluation of new technologies and novel concepts.
  • Draft technically accurate and timely reports, and responses to client and other forms of communication for review by an experienced engineer or engineering manager.
  • Provide technical expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
  • May propose new approaches to problems encountered and make recommendations for changes in methods, procedures or designs.
  • Work directly with global clients to identify and resolve issues in the area of technical expertise.
  • Work as a team member within the group. May work autonomously, once trained, with minimal supervision.
  • Provide technical presentations to clients or at seminars.

What You Will Need:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (KSAR)

  • Knowledge of electrical and/or marine engineering principles required.
  • The ability to identify, analyze and propose solutions to problems (i.e., the competence to demonstrate complex problem‑solving skills).
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Adaptability and passion for continuous learning.

Minimum years of experience:

  • Candidate is to possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or other related disciplines.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience working in marine Classification Societies, design/consulting companies, shipbuilding, offshore engineering, or the oil & gas industries. Fresh graduates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with Classification Society Rules and international maritime regulations (for e.g. SOLAS, MARPOL, IMO MODU Code etc) will be an advantage.
