Job summary

ST Engineering in Singapore seeks an experienced automation engineer for shipboard automation projects. You will design automation systems, integrate platform subsystems with the Ship Management System, and coordinate with vendors to meet contractual and classification requirements.

The role includes attending sea trials (where required) and liaising with clients, with travel as needed. Degree in Electrical/Automation/Mechanical engineering is required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical, Automation, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience in shipboard automation and SMS integration.
• Knowledge of Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus, RS422/RS485, CANbus, J1939.
• Ability to work with clients and vendors; travel as needed.
• Strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design automation systems and interface with Ship Management System (SMS).
• Handle I/O lists and platform system integration; interface with SMS.
• Review vendor proposals to ensure requirements are met.
• Coordinate with client, internal trades and vendors for project execution.
• Support sea trials and deployment activities as required.
• Attend project reviews and technical meetings with clients and vendors.

Job description

Able to assessengineering problems and develops pragmatic solutions to resolve engineering related issues for shipboard Automation projects, and to ensure the designs are in accordance to contractual specifications and marine classification requirement.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for all automation related design, platform system integration and interface with the Ship Management System (SMS) and platform system related control and monitoring and logics, which includes basic and detail design :
• I/O list
• Integration of third party equipment / system with SMS
• Conduct integration reviews with vendors and client
• Control console design and control panel arrangement
• Platform system automation design, system control and monitoring
• Responsible for ship safety and surveillance related systems, which includes:
  • Propulsion control system
  • Dynamic positioning system
  • CCTV system
  • Fire Detection System
  • Harbour Duty Surveillance System
• Review vendors technical proposal to ensure it meets the requirement
• Responsible for ensuring the Contractual technical requirement and Classification requirement of automation related design are fulfilled and within project schedule
• Liaise with client, internal engineering trades and vendors for project coordination
• Technical review and meetings with client and vendors during project execution to ensure requirement are fulfilled, provide solutions and resolve technical issues.

• Attend to local or oversea travels/deployment for project work (where required)
• Attend Sea Trials for a specified period (Where required)

Knowledge & Skills:

• Knowledge of Marine Electronics and Automation systems
• Knowledge in computer networking, control instrumentation and control system design
• Knowledge of standard communication protocols like Modbus RTU/TCP, Prrofibus, RS422, RS485, NEMA, CANbus, J1939
• Good Interpersonal Skills, problem solving skills and is a team player
• Good time management and able to meet tight deadlines
