Roles & Responsibilities
Position Purpose
The Engineer at Andes Consultants plays a critical role in delivering high-quality building inspection, diagnostics, and advisory services across assigned projects and managed sites. The role focuses on ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and practical constructability in the assessment and performance of building systems and fabric.
Through sound engineering judgement, systematic inspections, and effective collaboration with project teams and clients, the Engineer contributes to improving building performance, mitigating risks, and extending asset lifecycles. This role also supports Andes’ commitment to professional excellence, innovation in diagnostics, and sustainable building practices.
Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct site inspections and diagnostic assessments of building systems and elements, including façade, structural, architectural, M&E and waterproofing components where applicable.
- Monitor and assess the condition, performance, and reliability of building systems, identifying defects, risks, and maintenance or rectification needs.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, inspection findings, defect registers, and recommendations in accordance with regulatory and industry standards.
- Support compliance with relevant codes, standards, statutory requirements, and best practices (e.g. BCA, SCDF, SS, TR guidelines).
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and stakeholders to verify site conditions, clarify technical issues, and support project implementation. Participate in data collection, testing, measurements, and photographic documentation using appropriate diagnostic tools and methodologies.
- Assist in developing response strategies and recommendations for observed defects, system failures, or risk conditions.
Secondary / Support Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers and project managers in inspections, investigations, and advisory assignments under supervision.
- Carry out basic diagnostic tests and site checks to support higher-level engineering analysis.
- Maintain proper documentation, inspection records, and photo logs for reporting and audit purposes.
- Support the preparation of method statements, inspection plans, and site safety compliance documentation where required.
- Participate in continuous learning on building systems, defect mechanisms, diagnostic tools, and emerging technologies.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, specifications, manuals, and reference standards.
- Strong observational and analytical skills for defect identification and root-cause assessment.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple site assignments and reporting deadlines.
- Clear and professional communication with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal teams.
- Working knowledge of building systems including façade components, structural elements, architectural finishes, waterproofing, and M&E systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection not compulsory).
- Willingness to learn and apply non-destructive testing (NDT), diagnostic technologies, and digital tools used in building inspection and consultancy.
