Job summary

JN Medsys is seeking a freelance programmer to support firmware and engineering control software for the prototype instrument. You will work closely with the engineering team to develop embedded control for motors, sensors, thermal cycling and other hardware modules.

The role includes implementing motion sequences, host communication, and a simple engineering interface for testing and operation, using C/C++, Arduino, Linux and related tools.

Qualifications

• Embedded systems / firmware development experience.
• Experience with Arduino or similar microcontrollers.
• Proficient in C / C++ programming.
• Knowledge of Linux-based embedded systems.
• Experience with serial communication protocols.
• Experience with motion control and stepper motors.
• Experience with PC-based engineering/instrument-control software.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify firmware to control hardware modules.
• Implement motion controls for multiple motors and axes.
• Develop control functions for pumps, valves, actuators, sensors.
• Implement motion sequences, homing, positioning and safety functions.
• Develop host communication with embedded controller.
• Implement thermal control for PCR cycling.
• Integrate modules into an automated workflow.
• Add error detection and recovery mechanisms.
• Create engineering control app to run full workflow.
• Allow module testing and troubleshooting.
• Enable manual control of motors and hardware.
• Configure operating parameters (positions, speeds, temps, timing).
• Display status and sensor data.
• Record events and error logs.
• Support debugging and calibration.
