Full-Time Faculty, Education-Track Position (Assistant Professor) in Psychology, School of Social Sciences (SOSS)

Established in 2007, the SMU School of Social Sciences (SOSS) provides high-quality undergraduate and graduate education, broadening SMU’s pedagogical approach to studying society, government, and individuals in an increasingly complex world. With faculty expertise spanning psychology, political science, sociology, and philosophy, the School aims to make a significant and lasting impact across sectors through its integrative approach to social issues.

Position

The School of Social Sciences (SOSS) invites applications for an education-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Psychology, starting in July 2025.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate teaching needs, including Introduction to Psychology and Research Methods (both essential) or Psychopathology (highly desirable). Additionally, the candidate is expected to maintain a robust research agenda and engage in service activities within the university.

Singapore Management University (SMU) is committed to an interdisciplinary, integrated curriculum, providing opportunities to collaborate with faculty across the social sciences. The research support is excellent, and salary and benefits are highly competitive. The normal teaching load is three classes per semester, and undergraduate classes are capped at no more than 48 students, depending on course requirements.

Experience

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field.
  • A record of internationally recognized research excellence or high potential for scholarly contributions in psychology.
  • Teaching experience relevant to Introduction to Psychology and Research Methods.

The application package must be submitted by 19 May 2025 electronically to The Dean’s Office, School of Social Sciences and should include:

  1. A cover letter describing the candidate’s fit for the position, as well as outlining their research and teaching interests.
  2. An up-to-date CV (including teaching experience and a list of three referees).
  3. Writing samples (maximum of three).
  4. Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., teaching evaluations or syllabi).

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified for an interview. All hires are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
