Summary of Role
Responsible for the overall planning, execution, and successful completion of all medium voltage (22kV, 6.6kV) switchgear installation projects within Singapore. This role requires rigorous adherence to safety standards, budget management, timeline compliance, and quality control while leading a team of installation engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management: Oversee all installation projects from mobilization through to commissioning, ensuring alignment with project scope, timelines, and budget constraints. Coordinate with clients, consultants, and OEMs during factory acceptance test, site acceptance test and commissioning. Support project managers on installation milestones and reporting.
- Team Leadership: Manage, train, and mentor installation teams, including site supervisors, engineers, and technicians. Coordinate manpower and resource allocation across multiple projects (engineers, technicians, subcontractors).
- Safety and Compliance: Enforce stringent WSH (Workplace Safety and Health,) protocols and ensure all work complies with Singapore's regulatory requirements (e.g., standards set by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), SP Group standards and electrical safety regulations). Conduct regular site safety inspections and toolbox meetings.
- Quality Assurance & Control: Ensure all installations meet manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and client quality requirements. Manage site documentation, including method statements, risk assessments, and inspection/test plans (ITPs) and permit-to-work (PTW) compliance.
- Technical Expertise: Provide expert technical guidance for complex installation challenges, interfacing with engineering teams and manufacturers to resolve issues promptly. Lead installation works: switchgear erection, cabling, busbar installation, control wiring and related systems.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Act as the primary site liaison with clients, main contractors, other subcontractors, and the internal sales/project management teams to provide project updates and resolve site access or coordination issues.
- Resource Management: Manage inventory of installation tools, equipment, and necessary materials, ensuring calibration and availability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., in project management like PMP, or local safety certifications like bizSAFE STAR/WSQ Advanced Certificate in WSH) are highly advantageous
- Minimum 8 years of practical experience in the installation and commissioning of medium voltage (MV) / high voltage (HV) electrical infrastructure, with at least 3-4 years in a supervisory or management role
- Familiar with 66kV/22kV system layouts, drawings, and commissioning requirements. Experience with 22kV switchgears and above is an advantage
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Deep technical knowledge of switchgear equipment and installation procedures
- Proficiency in project management software and strong commitment to safety culture
- Valid relevant licenses required to work on MV/HV sites in Singapore is an advantage.
