Overview

The Director, Projects & Design – Asia Pacific excluding China (APACx) reports to the Senior Director, Projects & Design and is responsible for managing project stakeholders, the project timeline, the design process and the successful opening, conversion or renovation of the hotel project. As the point of contact between Owners and internal and external partners, you are a conduit of information, a collaborator and a facilitator between Hilton and ownership.

Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Providing technical services and guiding all elements of the planning and design phase of the project.
  • Supporting the Owner’s project timelines and construction progress to ensure a seamless hotel handover.
  • Providing mentorship for the implementation of brand standards and any recommendations for meeting those standards.
  • Overseeing construction activities.
  • Reporting to Owners, stakeholders and the Senior Director on findings, key dates, solving project risks that will affect the hotel’s success and opening, and conditional and final approvals.
  • Improving the final product and preparing waiver requests.
  • Assisting in solving design problems as they arise in concert with owners, architects, consultants and Hilton stakeholders.
  • Implementing effective and efficient strategies to suit the organization best.
  • Planning meetings, agendas, site visits and program deliverables optimally engaging/disengaging all parties promptly, allowing for accurate preparation and planning for the attendees.
  • Planning meetings and travel in consideration of other stakeholders and attendees’ travel times and travel‑expense agreements for several trips.

Design Management & Development Assistance

  • Co‑creating interior design concepts and storyboards in collaboration with design consultants.
  • Providing design direction, review and approval of architectural planning, interior design, FF&E, art & accessories, landscape design, graphics and way‑finding designs to ensure they meet the brand design narrative, brand standards and brand equity.
  • Supporting project assessment, including PIP inspections/reports to the development team before application to facilitate project approval.
  • Facilitating design communication with owners/consultants through sketches and markups.
  • Providing a comprehensive review of all stages of design in architecture, interiors, lighting, landscape, art & accessories, graphics and wayfinding.
  • Curating and reviewing FF&E selections, carpets, artwork and all items integral to the overall design narrative.
  • Contributing to country‑specific addenda to global brand standards for all Hilton brands.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in hospitality design roles and project management.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, written and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to lead change, resolve issues and ensure collaboration within teams and/or units, including maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity.
  • Ability to evaluate and find opportunities from a strategic perspective, develop, prioritise and implement plans to meet the organisation’s core strategic goals.
  • Ability to accurately estimate project duration and pre‑empt potential pitfalls based on experience, scheduling analysis and interaction with other stakeholders and ownership teams.
  • Ability to assimilate new concepts and practices into the position and the department and provide subordinates with effective on‑the‑job training, policies and procedures, departmental training topics and professional development.
  • Financial management and leadership skills, including the ability to monitor expenses against commitments, set priorities for funding and develop annual financial goals.
  • Ability to travel when required.
