Job description
Overview

The Chandler Institute of Governance (CIG) is looking for a Director (Government Projects) to lead and ensure successful delivery of the Institute’s global portfolio of technical projects, while developing and growing strategic partnerships with government partners and key stakeholders.

The right candidate will have notable qualifications and experience in public policy and government administration, consultancy, team leadership, project management and delivery, stakeholder engagement and international partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the Chief Executive Officer, the Government Projects team and CIG Regional Offices to scope, design, lead and successfully deliver technical projects in partnership with government agencies
  • Identify, develop, and pitch project proposals, and conclude agreements and contracts that expand CIG's impact and revenue.
  • Work with governance and public administration experts in CIG’s Faculty and Expert Network to design, validate and implement practical tools to improve public sector governance (these tools will be deployed during project work)
  • Proactively propose and implement initiatives (e.g. MOUs and engagement platforms) to develop and expand expert communities of practice, to support CIG’s technical projects
Experience and Qualifications
  • Graduate and postgraduate qualifications from reputable institutions in areas such as political science, comparative politics, economics and/or law
  • At least 10 years’ progressive experience in government and public policy
  • At least 10 years’ progressive experience in consulting or advisory work, with a proven track record of revenue generation and business development in a relevant field
  • Good track record of effective and empathetic team leadership and staff development
  • Good track record of successful management of a multi-country portfolio of concurrent projects
  • Good track record of project design, management and delivery to a high standard of quality

  • Planning, anticipating, strategizing and initiating, without detailed instructions
  • Meeting and delivering presentations to clients, and addressing client requirements
  • Designing and scoping projects, timelines and deliverables
  • Meeting revenue targets while maintaining high standards of delivery
  • Adapting and innovating under conditions of uncertainty and rapid change
  • Understanding government, public policy and public service delivery
  • Engagement and management of senior stakeholders (e.g. senior government managers, heads of NGOs and international organisations)
  • Oral and written communication in English
