About the role

We are looking for a dynamic, intellectual Director, Treasury Front Office with deep functional expertise and domain experience to lead all market‑facing treasury activities across Rio Tinto and ensure optimal financial position in line with corporate objectives. Key areas of responsibilities include liquidity planning, investment strategies, treasury risk management, treasury advisory to business units, driving continuous improvements across Rio Tinto’s global treasury operations and setting up treasury operations of new business units. This role is global in coverage and reports to the Head of Commercial Treasury.

Strategic Leadership
  • Define and execute the global front office strategy in alignment with enterprise objectives.
  • Drive innovation and maintain world‑class treasury front office capabilities
  • Act as a key advisor to senior management on market conditions and financial risks
Liquidity & Cash Management
  • Develop and maintain investment frameworks in line with enterprise objectives
  • Oversee global cash positioning to ensure adequate liquidity and deploy surplus funds effectively
  • Lead execution of short‑term liquidity and funding instruments such as Commercial Paper issuance
Risk Management
  • Develop and implement strategies to manage FX and interest rate exposures
  • Anticipate market and/or regulatory changes in jurisdictions where Rio Tinto operates, and develop appropriate financial risk‑management strategies in collaboration with internal teams
Governance & Controls
  • Maintain robust internal controls for deal execution, confirmation, and settlement across all business units
  • Ensure segregation of duties between front‑, middle‑, and back‑office functions across all business units
Technology & Process Optimization
  • Ensure efficient execution of transactions and adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Drive automation and enhance treasury management systems for continuous improvements, efficiency and transparency
Team Leadership
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement
  • Build and lead a high‑performing treasury team
About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, CFA, CPA, MBA, or Certified Treasury Professional is preferred.
  • At least 15 years of experience in multinational corporate treasury, preferably at HQ level.
  • Proven leadership skills in previous roles leading global teams in treasury operations, treasury markets, cash and treasury risk management.
  • Demonstrates expertise knowledge of treasury, capital and money markets, finance and debt & risk management.
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills
