Job summary

HTX is seeking a qualified professional to join the Digital & Information Forensics Centre of Expertise. The role focuses on researching open-source investigations, cloud sources, and developing platforms and tools for digital forensic analysis.

You will collaborate with investigators, prototype and improve forensic processes, stay current with emerging technologies, and manage proof-of-concept projects with vendors. Two-year contracts apply for new appointees.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline.
• Proficient in cloud technologies and architecture: AWS, Azure, GCP.
• Programming experience with Python or scripting languages.
• Knowledge of open-source investigation techniques.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and forensics concepts.
• Experience with agile project delivery from concept to deployment.

The Digital & Information Forensics Centre of Expertise employs cutting-edge technology and a multi-disciplinary approach involving on-scene, laboratory, and digital forensics to maximise evidence recovery and analysis to produce fast and actionable leads for our investigators. Through our push to increase the efficiency of digital forensics support for investigations, we have developed user-friendly tools to enable front-line officers to conduct evidence review on their own and generate leads faster.

What You Will Be Working On

The principal accountabilities of the job holder are to:

• Perform research in the areas of open-source investigations, cloud sources and services to aid in forensic examinations and criminal investigations.
• Develop platforms, tools, algorithms, and techniques for collecting, analysing and interpreting digital evidence from diverse sources.
• Collaborate with the Forensic Examiners and Investigators to ensure the tools and techniques are integrated into their workflows and meet their needs.
• Evaluate, review, and perform prototyping, testing and enhancement of forensic tools and processes.
• Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in digital forensics, cloud platforms and related fields and apply the knowledge to the development of new tools and techniques.
• Oversee and liaise with vendors to execute and evaluate proof of concept projects.

What We Are Looking For

• Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
• Relevant knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous
• Proficient in cloud technologies and architecture: AWS / Azure / GCP.
• Possess knowledge and understanding of open-source investigation techniques.
• Programming experience and familiarity with scripting languages such as Python.
• Knowledge in network and log file forensics, with experience in correlating digital artefacts to reconstruct user and system activities.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices.
• Experience in managing projects from initial conceptualisation through to final deployment using agile methodology.
• Basic knowledge in UI/UX principles and best practices.

All new appointees will be appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance.
