Job summary

Basil Technologies Pte. Ltd. is seeking an Application DBA with deep Mainframe DB2 on z/OS experience to manage database setup, objects, backups, and recovery.

You will contribute to design reviews, tuning, and documentation while aligning with customer expectations. Growth opportunities include performance tuning and data governance initiatives. You will collaborate with application teams, develop standard procedures, and mentors peers as you expand into governance and policy topics.

Qualifications

• Mandatory Mainframe DB2 on z/OS experience with at least 4 years.
• Knowledge of database design, implementation and operation support.
• Experience migrating data from Mainframe DB2 on z/OS to flat files using scripts or tools.
• Knowledge of other databases (MS SQL Server, DB2 UDB) and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Migrate data from Mainframe DB2 on z/OS to flat files using scripts or tools in the mainframe environment.
• Plan and perform database migration.
• Monitor and measure the performance and availability of databases; take corrective actions to improve performance.
• Document and maintain the database configurations; provide regular reporting.
• Ensure service levels are met; lead and monitor databases per SOPs.
• Implement backup/restore procedures and disaster recovery plans for continuity.
• Define data governance policies for database operations; manage permissions and naming standards.
• Stay updated on database technologies and contribute to team knowledge.
• Collaborate with application teams to review designs and recommend changes.
• Develop standards and procedures for the database environment and enforce them.
• Engage customers to explain database design decisions; educate application teams on best practices.
• Share knowledge within CoPs or internal forums; contribute to repositories.

Qualifications

This position requires mandatory Mainframe DB2 on z/OS database administration experience of at least 4 years. He / She possesses good knowledge of database design, implementation and operation support. He/She has experience in migrating data from Mainframe DB2 on z/OS to flat files using scripts or tools in the mainframe environment. Knowledge and experience in other databases such as MS SQL Server orDB2 uDB as well as cloud platforms (eg. AWS or AZURE) is an added advantage.

Primary Purpose

The Application DBA is responsible to perform database Administration activities such as database setup, defining/maintaining database objects, backup and recovery. He/She is also involved in database design and review, application SQL tuning and maintaining documentation meeting customer’s expectation. As the experience in this position grows, there will be opportunities to expand to database consultancies areas such as performance tuning, data governance and data policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Migrating data from Mainframe DB2 on z/OS to flat files using scripts or tools in the mainframe environment.
• Plan and perform database migration
• Monitor & measure the performance & availability of databases proactively; implement corrective actions identified to improve performance & availability.
• Monitor the agreed service level, document & maintain the configuration of the databases; provide regular reporting to relevant parties.
• Ensure service level meet requirement. Propose and implement action plan when required. Lead and monitor databases according to standard operations procedures.
• Implementation of service continuity measures, i.e., backup/restore procedures & disaster recovery plan, to ensure continuous operation of the business.
• Define data governance policy related to database operations management. Manage database permission, hardening standards, database naming standards.
• Keep abreast of database technologies.
• A good team player.
• Work with application team to review the database design and recommend suitable changes to the data model with understanding of the business and application environment
• Develop standards and procedures related to database environment and ensure that it is followed through for all implementations
• Engage customers to explain the rationale of the database design, or other technical issues
• Educate application team on best practices in coding and design
• Share knowledge with the rest of organization through CoPs or other in-house forums
• Contribute to knowledge repository on experience learnt through project implementation
