Job summary

ITCAN Pte Limited is seeking a seasoned Database Administrator to safeguard critical data platforms, ensure performance, and maintain high availability for government, financial services, and enterprise clients. You will tackle complex reliability challenges and drive automation to reduce toil.

The role requires strong SQL/NoSQL skills, cloud database experience, and the ability to communicate clearly during incidents.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience administering production databases.
  • Experience with at least one major RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL).
  • Backup, recovery, replication, clustering, and high availability knowledge.
  • Performance tuning, query optimisation, and troubleshooting.
  • Security, access management, and audit compliance experience.
  • Scripting in Shell, Python, or PowerShell for automation.
  • Experience supporting 24x7 production environments and incidents.
  • Strong communication across multiple teams.
  • Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and patch database systems across development, test, and production environments.
  • Monitor database health and performance, and tune queries, indexes, and configurations to meet SLAs.
  • Design and implement backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions, and test them regularly.
  • Manage database security, including access control, encryption, auditing, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Support application teams with schema design, query optimisation, and release deployments.
  • Plan and execute database migrations, including on-premises to cloud and version upgrades, with minimal downtime.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Perform capacity planning and recommend improvements to storage, memory, and licensing.
  • Respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, and document fixes and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in on-call or standby rotation and planned after-hours maintenance.
  • Work with infrastructure, security, DevOps, and application teams, and communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

MUST HAVE
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience administering production databases
  • Strong experience with at least one major RDBMS, such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
  • Solid knowledge of backup and recovery, replication, clustering, and high availability (for example Oracle RAC/Data Guard, SQL Server Always On, or PostgreSQL streaming replication)
  • Proven skills in performance tuning, query optimisation, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with database security, access management, and audit compliance
  • Proficiency in ing for automation (Shell, Python, or PowerShell)
  • Experience supporting 24x7 production environments and handling incidents
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with multiple teams
  • Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
GOOD TO HAVE
  • Experience with cloud databases (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL) and cloud migration
  • Exposure to NoSQL technologies (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra)
  • Experience with containers and Kubernetes-based databases
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and tools such as Ansible or Terraform
  • Experience in government or banking environments and their compliance standards
  • Relevant certifications (Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Azure Database Administrator, AWS Database Specialty)
  • Experience with data warehousing, ETL, or monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, OEM, SolarWinds)
