Job summary

The Department of Statistics Singapore invites applications for an intern to modernise and streamline administrative data processing for household income and wealth. You will translate SAS-based processing into Python, design modular multi-stage workflows, and build automated checks to improve data preparation.

This 5-6 month internship (Feb 2027 to Jun/Jul 2027) offers hands-on experience with open-source pipelines, version control, and collaboration in a government data environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge or experience in computer science, data engineering, data processing, or process automation.
• Proficiency in Python and able to apply best practices in coding
• Process automation and data analytics
• Interest in problem solving, with a curiosity and willingness to learn
• Able to work independently and detail-oriented

Responsibilities

• Analyse existing processing requirements (SAS) and translate into efficient open-source Python code.
• Design modular, multi-stage workflows to ingest, validate, transform and standardise data files.
• Develop automated processing and quality checks to improve efficiency and reproducibility.
• Establish a Git repository with documentation and code organisation for collaborative development.
