Job summary

A public sector recruitment agency is seeking a Data Engineer to design and maintain data pipelines supporting their digital transformation. Opportunity

• Adecco is partnering with a public sector agency to search for a Data Engineer.
• The ideal candidate will have experience in building and maintaining data systems that support the agency's digital transformation and data-driven initiatives. We also welcome Software Engineers with some exposure to data engineering who are keen to expand their expertise in this area.
• This role will start off as a 12-month contract assignment.
• Work Location: Southwest

Talent

• Possesses a Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Has at least 1‑2 years of experience in software or data engineering.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
• Hands‑on experience in building or maintaining data pipelines (batch or real‑time).
• Exposure to data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Cloudera.
• Familiar with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Understanding of data security, data quality, and data governance practices.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, MicroStrategy, or Power BI is a plus.
• A motivated team player who is curious, proactive, and passionate about leveraging data for impact.
• Open to Software Engineers looking to grow into a data engineering career path.

Job

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines across multiple environments and layers (from raw to consumption‑ready data).
• Develop data infrastructure improvements using modern practices such as Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) and DataOps.
• Implement and optimise ETL/ELT workflows to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Collaborate with data governance teams to enforce data access, security, and quality controls.
• Develop and publish master and reference data for cross‑domain usage.
• Support data quality pipelines, monitoring and remediating issues with domain data owners.
• Conduct proof‑of‑concepts with modern data tools (e.g., dbt, Fivetran, Neo4j, Apache Atlas).
• Work closely with internal teams on data models (e.g., Kimball, Data Vault 2.0) and domain‑specific data solutions (HR, Finance, Product, etc.).
• Provide technical guidance on Spark, Databricks, and other data platform technologies.
• Ensure the security and reliability of the agency's data platform and minimise data downtime for critical data products.
